Data Center Senior Civil Engineer, DCDE AMER Civil
Amazon Data Services, Inc. is part of AWS Infrastructure Services, responsible for designing, planning, delivering, and operating all AWS global infrastructure. This role leads Civil Engineering designs for Amazon Data Centers across the Americas, working with architects, engineers, and designers to solve large‑scale implementation challenges and ensure the highest safety and security standards while driving cost efficiencies.
Key Responsibilities- Manage external civil design consultants throughout the Data Center design and construction process.
- Review designs for site layout, grading, power substations, storm water, utilities, and pavement.
- Coordinate with internal and external architectural, structural, and MEP design engineers as a technical resource and design leader.
- Develop preliminary site layout concepts using Civil 3D, incorporating grading, utilities, and circulation patterns while maintaining flexibility for design evolution.
- Effectively communicate design standards to internal and external project partners.
- Create, review, and maintain project documentation before, during, and after construction.
- Develop and maintain design standards, prototypes, and template specifications related to site design for Data Centers and supporting infrastructure.
- Create, review, and release design RFPs for various projects, including Data Centers and special program facilities.
- Manage multiple fast‑paced projects simultaneously, coordinating with Technical Program Managers on cost and schedule expectations.
- Lead initiatives aimed at improving cost, quality, schedule, and consistency.
- Travel for site assessments, internal design meetings, construction review, and authority‑having‑jurisdiction interfacing (15–25%).
The Americas Design Engineering team is responsible for the design and operation of critical Data Center facilities located throughout North and South America. The team comprises diverse professionals in software, hardware, network engineering, supply chain, security, and operations, all working together to deliver innovative, high‑capacity, low‑cost solutions.
Basic Qualifications- Professional Engineer license.
- Knowledge of site development codes and regulations.
- Experience researching new designs, technologies, and construction methods for site development.
- Experience with low‑impact development strategies and sustainable design features.
- Experience carrying design concepts through exploration, development, and deployment.
- Experience reading, interpreting, and creating construction drawings, specifications, and submittals.
- Experience in industrial or commercial engineering in mission‑critical facilities, such as data centers, power generation, or oil & gas facilities.
- Knowledge of critical data center mechanical and electrical equipment.
- Knowledge of power generation and substation design.
- Experience in data center design, construction, and operations.

The base salary range for this position is $136,600 to $184,800 USD annually, varying by location. The total compensation package includes sign‑on payments, restricted stock units (RSUs), and comprehensive benefits such as health insurance, 401(k) matching, paid time off, and parental leave.
