Description
Join a diverse, dynamic, and enthusiastic team of environmental professionals who play a leading role in environmental permitting and compliance at Amazon Web Services (AWS). The Regional Environmental Engineers are critical to enabling AWS’s growth in the US and around the world, ensuring compliance of AWS’s global operations — including physical data centers and other facilities — with environmental regulations. In this role, you will partner with AWS stakeholders to develop regional and site‑specific development strategies, lead environmental due diligence for site selection and acquisition, develop and execute permitting strategies, and support environmental compliance during design, construction, and operation of data centers.
Key Responsibilities- Assess environmental risks and requirements and develop mitigations and strategies to support data center siting and development strategies and site‑specific project delivery.
- Lead technical aspects of environmental due diligence, including Phase I and Phase II Environmental Site Assessments, regulatory and permitting evaluations, natural, biological and cultural resource evaluations, and noise assessments.
- Deliver environmental permits, approvals, and plans to enable on‑time and compliant construction and operations for new data center locations and expansion of existing sites.
- Communicate environmental requirements, risks, and activities to internal and external project partners.
- Coordinate with partner teams including Real Estate, Design, Water, Legal, Risk, Power, and others to optimize site designs to consider natural resource or operational constraints.
- Develop site development and permitting strategies that are environmentally responsible and sustainable while meeting project timelines.
- Lead regulatory agency interactions and negotiations in support of environmental permit acquisition and regional development strategies.
- Develop, manage, and track metrics to evaluate project success.
- Bachelor's degree in engineering or equivalent.
- Experience delivering multi-media environmental due diligence, permitting, and compliance projects with specific expertise in CWA 404 and NPDES permitting, groundwater protection, wastewater discharge, and natural and cultural resource evaluations.
- 7+ years experience conducting environmental due diligence for greenfield and brownfield sites.
- At least 3 years of project or task management experience for environmental permitting and/or due diligence projects.
- 5+ years of working in data centers or critical infrastructure.
- Experience managing large projects and multifunctional teams.
- Travel up to 25% of the time.
- Experience in multiple states within the US (preferably in NC, GA, LA, MS, TX, TN, OK, FL).
- Experience managing and/or supporting community/public interactions.
- Experience with Smartsheet or other project management software.
