Cobb Fendley is seeking an experienced SUE Technician in our Austin office.

Responsibilities
  • Plan Production — Work independently to support Project Managers, Project Engineers and Designers with technical design tasks; use engineering and drafting software to generate plan and profile drawings, cross-sections, and underground utilities from survey files and/or record drawings; complete redline markups and incorporate review comments with minimal supervision; prepare intermediate drawings, cost estimates, bills of materials, and required documents for construction and maintenance projects;

    interpret survey notes, utility records, and civil plans to create accurate base drawings; perform standard calculations (elevations, grades, utility dimensions, material quantities); support collection of field data or utility record information as needed.
  • Compliance + Quality — Apply and follow QA/QC procedures; identify and correct potential errors or inconsistencies; maintain compliance with company standards and safety requirements.
  • Communication + Collaboration — Collaborate with supervisors, project managers, mentors, and internal staff to complete assignments; serve as a resource on drafting practices and procedures.
  • Training, Learning + Advancement — Develop skills in interpreting survey data, utility records, and engineering plans.
  • Client + Internal Satisfaction — Work with internal clients daily, problem-solve and escalate as needed; apply client standards, guidelines, specifications, and industry practices in layouts.
  • Technical — Provide CAD support for Subsurface Utility Engineering projects; understand civil engineering and utility symbols for plan & profile drawings in public rights-of-way; demonstrate functional knowledge of Micro Station, InRoads, AutoCAD Civil 3D and related software; interpret utility records and civil plans to prepare base drawings; create plans and profile drawings for utilities; perform data entry and maintenance for GIS databases;

    work with rough sketches and engineering data to develop final construction drawings; understand and work with survey notes and utility record drawings; plot plan & profile drawings including cross-sections and related features; collect field or utility data as needed; calculate project utility dimensions, grades, elevations, sizes, and material quantities.

Physical / Cognitive Requirements & Environmental Factors
  • Work environment — Office-based with occasional client visits and outdoor observations.
  • Seated/Standing — Extended periods of sitting and standing at a workstation.

  • Neck / Vision — Head movement while using multiple computer screens.
  • Repetitive Motion — Keyboard and mouse use.
  • Arm Movement — Handling objects at various heights and positions.

  • Safety & Equipment — Regular PPE use and tool handling; driving as needed.
  • Outdoor Conditions — Walking on uneven surfaces, exposure to weather, noise, and allergens; wildlife hazards possible.
Expected Work Hours
  • Full-time, generally 40 hours per week; overtime may be required.
  • Office hours:
    Monday–Friday, 7:30 AM–4:30 PM CST; lunch break ~1 hour; hours may vary by project workload.
