Transportation Engineer II: B25 ($69,572 - $114,099 yearly)

• Performs transportation engineering work in one or more functional areas such as planning, project development and design, construction, transportation/traffic operations and maintenance. Ensures compliance with applicable federal and state laws, policies, procedures, standards and guidelines. Works with governmental officials and private entities.
• Answers technical and policy questions related to bridge inspection and maintains bridge inspection data; analyzes data and provides summaries.
• Assists in the development, preparation and letting of maintenance contracts for the district.
• Assists with design, computer operations and plan preparation.
• Interprets maintenance standards, rules, methods, procedures, practices and policies.
• Performs other job responsibilities as assigned.
• For Transportation Engineer II: assists districts with bridge inspection‑related matters; coordinates with Area Engineers and reviews area office contract submissions; analyzes and assists in the resolution of contract problems and disputes; reviews, coordinates, monitors and approves routine and emergency maintenance contracts; formulates maintenance specifications, plans and proposal reviews and prepares estimates for letting.
• For Transportation Engineer III: performs data collection, analyses, forecasts and plan development; responsible for a pavement management program.

• Education: Bachelor’s Degree in engineering or related science bachelor or higher degree accepted by TX PELS.
• Experience: For all levels (Experience can be satisfied by full‑time or prorated part‑time equivalent). Related graduate‑level education may be substituted for experience on a year‑per‑year basis.
• Licenses and Certification: Valid driver’s license; this position requires driving a state vehicle.
• Licensed Professional Engineer in Texas (or in another U.S. state, must obtain Texas license within six months and sign an agreement).

• Subject to environmental conditions; protection from weather but not temperature changes.
• Sedentary work: lift up to 10 lbs at a time and occasionally carry files/small tools.
• Visual acuity required to determine work quality and make general observations of facilities/structures.
• Requires a pre‑employment physical; must pass a drug test prior to employment. This is a Safety Impact position and will be subject to random drug testing.
