Geotechnical Engineer – AWS Data Center Design
Job : | Amazon Web Services (AWS) is seeking a Geotechnical Engineer to join its data center design team in one of four hubs:
Austin, TX;
Columbus, OH;
Herndon, VA; or Seattle, WA. As a Geotechnical Engineer, you will provide technical guidance and oversight on geotechnical issues related to construction projects and contribute to prototypical data center site designs.
AWS Infrastructure Services owns the design, planning, delivery, and operation of all AWS global infrastructure. You will work with a diverse team of architects, engineers, and designers to solve problems, supervise geotechnical design and vendor oversight, and support large-scale implementation with a strong understanding of geotechnical design and program requirements.
Travel for site assessments, internal design meetings, construction review, and coordination with authorities having jurisdiction may be required.
Key Responsibilities- Analyze data from geotechnical investigations to identify hazards that may affect project design, construction, or operation.
- Provide technical guidance to project managers, contractors, and stakeholders on foundation design, slope stability, earthworks, pavement design, and groundwater control.
- Manage external geotechnical design consultants through the data center design and construction process.
- Review and optimize designs for site layout, earthworks, foundations, soil stabilization, pavements, and related elements.
- Coordinate with internal and external design engineers and effectively communicate design standards to project partners.
- Develop and maintain design standards, prototypes, and template specifications related to geotechnical engineering for data centers and supporting infrastructure.
- Coordinate with Due Diligence and Real Estate teams to determine site selection criteria and review due diligence reports.
- Prepare, review, and release design RFPs for projects including data centers and special facilities.
- Manage multiple fast-paced projects, balancing cost and schedule considerations with Internal TPM expectations.
- Lead initiatives to improve cost, quality, schedule, and consistency in geotechnical work.
- Professional Engineer License
- 4+ years of geotechnical engineering experience
- Experience with building codes and regulations for your region
- Experience taking design concepts from exploration through deployment or mass production
- Experience reading, interpreting, and creating construction drawings, specifications, and submittal documents
- Proficiency with geotechnical engineering standards to review investigations and assessments for soil/rock conditions, site suitability, and hazards
- 2+ years of design experience for Data Centers or Mission Critical facilities with land development knowledge
- Proficiency in AutoCAD, Bluebeam, and MS Office Suite
