Amazon Web Services is hiring a Product Design Electrical Engineer with Medium Voltage Switchgear and/or Medium Voltage Transformer experience for our Electrical Products and Services team. The team is a global engineering group that designs and continuously innovates the electrical distribution products and systems used within our rapidly expanding data center footprint. As an engineer you will contribute to achieving world‑class uptime for our customers, driving continuous advancements and improvements with your designs, and communicating technical direction to senior leadership.
Key Job Responsibilities- Work with internal partner teams to solicit customer input and define design requirements for product design.
- Lead new product design, development and qualification of critical electrical power distribution equipment for AWS datacenters, focusing on MV switch gear and transformers and related LV switch gear and power distribution.
- Develop Capex and Opex budgets taking into account development costs with vendors, prototyping needs, testing and specialized tooling requirements.
- Work with global suppliers and manufacturers to specify appropriate electrical equipment and components, ensuring tier 2‑3 supply chain resiliency.
- Ensure compliance with UL, CSA, IEC and federal, state and municipal requirements and building codes across different countries through appropriate levels of testing.
- Validate design through prototype, pre‑production and first‑of‑kind builds, conducting DFx and value engineering analysis and updating design and documentation.
- Work with field engineering and commissioning teams to properly test and validate installation, operation and performance of electrical products.
- Provide support for manufacturing activities for new products on concurrent projects in multiple geographical locations.
- Lead as a product development team member and collaborate with internal and external teams that support the data center.
- 6+ years of data center design, construction, operations, or facility maintenance experience.
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or a related field.
- Knowledge of critical data center mechanical and electrical equipment.
- Experience developing solutions and executing plans on complex projects.
- Experience in industrial or commercial engineering in mission critical facilities (e.g., data centers, power generation, oil and gas).
- Experience researching new designs, technologies, and construction methods of data center equipment and facilities.
- Professional Engineering or Architectural License.
- Knowledge of building codes and regulations for your region.
- Experience carrying design concepts through exploration, development, and into deployment or mass production.
- Experience reading, interpreting, and creating construction drawings, specifications, and submittal documents.
