Sr. Mechanical Engineer, Data Center Engineering

AWS Infrastructure Services designs, plans, delivers, and operates all AWS global infrastructure. The Sr. Mechanical Engineer will work with a global team of software, hardware, network, and security engineers to implement and evaluate mechanical systems that enable our data centers to operate at the lowest cost and highest reliability.
Key Responsibilities- Design and implement energy-efficient mechanical systems for data centers.
- Partner with teams to develop innovative cooling solutions and sustainability initiatives.
- Model systems using BIM/Revit and produce comprehensive documentation.
- Support continuous improvement through data analysis and system optimization.
- Guide project teams through planning, execution, and commissioning phases.
- Decompose complex problems into straightforward, actionable solutions.
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams across cultures and countries.
- Communicate clearly and effectively with stakeholders of varying technical ability.
- Produce clear and concise documentation such as design specifications, white papers, wiring schematics, and reports.
- Safeguard the implementation of the Global Mechanical Basis of Design with constant auditing.
- Drive standardization of data center mechanical designs.
- Create strategic solutions that meet quality and budgetary requirements.
- Turn aspirational goals into well-defined, achievable specifications.
- Define project scope and provide technical support for information requests.
- Work with regional vendors to specify appropriate mechanical equipment.
- Review and approve critical equipment submittals, including vendor Witness Tests.
- Provide technical support on global Large Scale Events (LSEs).
– Participate in deep dives, investigations, and mitigation plans. - Maintain and host technical mechanical forums to facilitate collaborative development.
- Provide mentorship across the Data Center Engineering community.
- Offer creative, out-of-the-box solutions.
- 4+ years of industrial or commercial engineering experience in mission-critical facilities such as data centers, power generation, or oil and gas.
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering or a related field.
- Experience with CAD software (AutoCAD, Revit, BIM 360, etc.).
- 6+ years of design, construction, operations, or facility maintenance experience.
- Experience researching new designs, technologies, and construction methods.
- Proven ability to drive continuous advancement and improvements with mechanical designs.
- Professional Engineering or Architectural license.
- Knowledge of building codes and regulations for your region.
- Ability to read, interpret, and create construction drawings, specifications, and submittal documents.
- Experience carrying design concepts through exploration, development, and deployment.
- Understanding of heat transfer, fluid dynamics, and CFD analysis.
- Knowledge of building management systems.
