Building Enclosure Consultant

Overview

Wiss, Janney, Elstner Associates, Inc. (WJE) is seeking a Building Enclosure Consultant (Senior Associate) with 10+ years of experience to join our Austin, Texas office. This role is a doer‑manager that will lead envelope investigations, diagnostics, detailing, and rehabilitation projects across contemporary and historic structures.

• Provide technical project leadership, applying engineering judgment and deep knowledge of governing codes, design guidelines, and industry practices.
• Collaborate with interdisciplinary project teams and leverage expertise across a variety of building envelope systems and materials.
• Prepare technically excellent client deliverables and provide high‑quality reviews and oversight of work by others.
• Self‑perform and train others in hands‑on field work and diagnostic testing.
• Manage project scoping, proposal writing, team assembly, and maintain project schedules, budgets, and financials.
• Manage client expectations and deliverables.
• Act as a mentor and exemplify WJE’s culture of shared destiny and knowledge sharing, both locally and company‑wide.
• Contribute to client relationship development, participate in industry organizations, conferences, and technical committees.

• Registered Architect (RA) or Professional Engineer (PE); other relevant professional certifications (e.g., RBEC, RRC, RWC, REWC) considered.
• Bachelor’s degree or higher in architecture, architectural engineering, building science, civil engineering, or related field; master’s degree preferred.
• Minimum 10 years of experience in building enclosure consulting, including technical and project management, with demonstrated expertise in evaluation, diagnostic testing, troubleshooting, and detailing of building envelope, roofing, and waterproofing systems.
• Applied expertise in hygrothermal principles across building envelope materials, assemblies, and interfaces.
• Excellent technical, graphical, written, and verbal communication skills.

This position requires visual acuity, listening ability, dexterity to operate office and field equipment, and the capability to travel and attend meetings at various office, field, and construction sites. Candidates must safely work at heights, in confined spaces, and in environment with temperature extremes, and lift and carry materials, tools, and other heavy equipment up to 50 lbs. Ability to use respiratory protection devices, drive and safely operate a motor vehicle is required.
