Surveyor

Reporting to the Director of Quality, and/or their designee, the Surveyor will be responsible for interacting with a variety of company personnel and customers as they survey buildings for projects requiring steel fabrication and erection. The surveyor will prepare and layout construction projects, and must be able to conduct survey activities alone. They will perform project layout and benchmarking, total station, levels and/or other surveying tasks.

Essential Duties (other duties may be assigned):

• Preview projects and project sites before work begins to determine safety-related risks.
• Visit active project sites to assess progress.
• Work with project management teams and field workers to develop and implement solutions to safety-related issues on project sites.
• Collaborate with other stakeholders to ensure coordinated deliverables.
• Prepares plans and estimate costs for potential projects as well as produces as-built drawings.
• Inspecting work to ensure proper compliance with construction specifications are adhered to.
• Prepares written reports providing legal descriptions based on findings and any actions required to rectify any problems that may arise, and preparing survey information to clients.
• Preparation of worksheets, verification of anchor bolt layout and verification of erected steel.
• Horizontal and vertical control verification.
• Developing as-builts.
• Chaining dimensions.

Education/

Experience:

• 3 (or more) years' experience as a field engineer, or a combination of education and experience.
• Bachelors in Construction or Engineering a plus.
• Knowledge of construction practices and standards used in the iron working and construction industries.

Knowledge of:

• CAD systems and operations.

Ability to:

• Good recordkeeping abilities –must be able to maintain adequate records of all survey activities.

Certificates and Licenses:
Current OSHA certifications preferred (OSHA 10).

This position operates in a non-climate-controlled construction site/production/manufacturing environment. This role may use hand tools and equipment relative to the scope of the position.
