This role focuses on maintaining test infrastructure, fabricating and integrating test articles, and working closely with test engineers to ensure reliable, high-quality testing of mechanical, fluid, and electro-mechanical systems. You will contribute directly to innovative solutions in robotics, large-scale construction technology, advanced materials, and automation.
- Assist in the setup, operation, and troubleshooting of mechanical, fluid, and electro-mechanical test systems.
- Support the maintenance of test infrastructure, including test stands, fluid systems, and related processes under the guidance of senior team members.
- Assist in the fabrication and integration of test articles and equipment such as fluid panels, actuators, motors, gears, electrical cabinets, PLCs, and welded assemblies.
- Support the integration, operation, and troubleshooting of motion-control subsystems and software/firmware components within test systems.
- Use test equipment, including oscilloscopes and sensors, to perform end-to-end product testing and validate system performance.
- Assist with the setup and operation of test equipment involving VFDS, PLCs, Beckhoff TwinCAT, telemetry, and other control and monitoring systems.
- Collaborate with the team to maintain accurate documentation, including test procedures, configuration notes, and detailed test data logs.
- Learn and follow standard operating procedures (SOPs) for safety, testing, and equipment handling.
- Assist with on-site testing, repair, and troubleshooting activities under supervision, including work in outdoor test yards.
- Support continuous improvement of test processes by communicating issues, suggesting enhancements, and helping implement process updates.
- Work closely with engineers, technicians, and cross-functional teams to ensure test systems are ready, safe, and configured correctly for each test campaign.
Essential Skills
- 1–2+ years of experience in mechanical, electrical, or fluid system testing.
- Strong interest in hands-on fabrication, assembly, and troubleshooting of mechanical, electrical, and fluid systems.
- Basic ability to read and interpret schematics, wiring diagrams, and technical documentation.
- Familiarity with mechanical tools, fasteners, and gear assemblies.
- Familiarity with PLC systems and their role in controlling test equipment and automation.
- Ability to perform troubleshooting on mechanical, electro-mechanical, and fluid test systems.
- Comfort using test equipment such as oscilloscopes, sensors, and other diagnostic tools.
- Strong communication and collaboration skills to work effectively with engineers, technicians, and cross-functional teams.
- Ability to work in extreme environments, including high or low temperatures, sun, rain, and dirt/mud, with approximately 30% of time spent in outdoor testing.
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds as part of equipment setup, fabrication, and testing activities.
- High school diploma or equivalent.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- Experience with end-to-end product testing, including setup, execution, and documentation of test results.
- Exposure to test maintenance and fabrication, including building and modifying test fixtures and assemblies.
- Familiarity with fluid systems, including piping, valves, pumps, and related components used in test environments.
- Experience working with VFDS, PLCs, Beckhoff TwinCAT, telemetry, and other control and automation platforms.
- Basic understanding of motion-control systems and software/firmware integration within test setups.
- Ability to interpret and follow standard operating procedures (SOPs) for safety and testing.
- Associates degree in mechatronics, mechanical engineering technology, or a relevant technical field is a plus.
- Interest in robotics, automation, controls, sensors, fluid systems, materials testing, and machine development.
- Comfort working in a fast-paced, startup-style environment with changing priorities and varied technical challenges.
