Principal, Design Engineering - TPL
The Principal Design Engineer, TPL, will serve as the lead in the hardware design, implementation, and management of compute systems. Primary responsibilities include driving compute strategies and recommending industry best practices for compute solutions. Additionally, this role will support the design and deployment of effective compute systems and research new and emerging technologies, particularly in the field of AI.
Performs tasks such as, but not limited to, the following:
- Lead and participate in ideation and concept design, creating new and reusable hardware architectures for current and future product categories.
- Provide strategic direction for the planning, design, and architecture of high-quality, complex hardware systems.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams including Product Group Technology Leads, Product Managers, Marketing, and Sales/SEs to define the technology roadmap.
- Work closely with product teams (engineers and product line managers) to translate the technology roadmap into concrete hardware products.
- Analyze compute industry trends and partner with senior leadership to develop the strategic direction for innovative technology initiatives.
- Act as a Subject Matter Expert (SME), sharing knowledge on industry trends and mentoring teams across Hardware Product Solutions (HPS).
- Select key components to optimize design and cost efficiency for successful market adoption.
- Review and analyze new technologies, summarizing results for presentation to both technical and non-technical audiences.
- Engage with strategic customers to represent our hardware products at a deep technical level, using their use cases to drive internal innovation.
Knowledge/Skills/
Competencies:
- 12+ years of experience in hardware design or a related field.
- Proficiency in compute hardware architectures, including datacenter, telecommunications, enterprise, and service provider environments.
- Strong understanding of compute components and protocols.
- Hands-on experience with AMD and Intel GPUs, Broadcom DNX, Intel/AMD processors, HDDs, SSDs, SAS/SATA, PCIe, CXL, and x86 architectures.
- Experience in rack-level system design.
- Proven ability to drive early product concepts and hardware architecture development through prototyping, evaluation of new designs, system architecture, and debugging.
- Ability to create and analyze architectural and product specifications to enable hardware product development.
- Solid understanding of hardware security elements.
- Strong soft skills:
Excellent interpersonal, communication, and presentation skills. A self-motivated, highly organized professional with strong analytical and customer service abilities.
Typical
Education:
Bachelor's degree in Electrical / Computer Engineering / Physics. Educational Requirements may vary by Geography.
Physical Demands:
Duties of this position are performed in a normal office environment. Duties may require extended periods of sitting and sustained visual concentration on a computer monitor or on numbers and other detailed data. Repetitive manual movements (e.g., data entry, using a computer mouse, using a calculator, etc.) are frequently required. Occasional travel may be required.
