The Materials and Tests Division (MTD) delivers statewide service and technical expertise in materials quality and technology to support the Texas transportation system. MTD is comprised of multiple sections and labs:
Quality Assurance, Structural Materials Operations Section, Structural Materials Field/Engineering Section, Coatings, Calibrations, and Traffic Materials, Flexible Pavements, Asphalt Binder, and Rigid Pavement and Concrete Materials. We are seeking Transportation Engineers to join our state-of-the-art laboratory and work alongside industry-leading experts.

Transportation Engineer II:
Performs complex transportation engineering work in one or more functional areas such as planning, project development and design, construction, transportation/traffic operations and/or maintenance. Ensures compliance with applicable federal and state laws, policies, procedures, standards and guidelines. Work requires contact with governmental officials and private entities. Employees at this level perform work independently on assignments; however all unusual issues are referred to the supervisor.
Transportation Engineer III Performs advanced and complex transportation engineering work in one or more functional areas such as planning, project development and design, construction, transportation/traffic operations and/or maintenance. Ensures compliance with applicable federal and state laws, policies, procedures, standards and guidelines. Work requires contact with governmental officials and private entities. Employees at this level establish their own work plan and priorities to meet set objectives.
Issues are rarely referred to the supervisor but are handled at the occurrence.
Transportation Engineer IV Performs highly advanced and complex transportation engineering work in one or more functional areas such as planning, project development and design, construction, transportation/traffic operations, maintenance and/or [research]. Ensures compliance with applicable federal and state laws, policies, procedures, standards and guidelines. Work requires contact with governmental officials and private entities. Employees at this level are virtually self-supervising and assume direct accountability for the work product.
Transportation Engineer V Performs highly advanced and complex transportation engineering work in one or more functional areas such as planning, project development and design, construction, transportation/traffic operations, maintenance and/or research. Ensures compliance with applicable federal and state laws, policies, procedures, standards and guidelines. Work requires contact with governmental officials and private entities. Employees at this level are virtually self-supervising and assume direct accountability for the work product.

Evaluates the performance of new transportation products. Interprets maintenance standards, rules, methods, procedures, practices and policies. Investigates materials failures or fabrication problems; reviews test data and assists in determining cause of failing materials. Serve as a lead worker and the related tasks.
