Primary FunctionSupervising Substation Engineering – the role has complete responsibility for the profitability, quality, and schedule performance of their engineering team(s). The incumbent oversees resource assignment, manages engineering duties to ensure project goals are met, and coordinates multiple simultaneous projects. This position requires extensive knowledge of substation design and engineering, and will be based in Austin, TX (11501 Burnet Rd, Bldg 906, Suite 200 Austin, TX) under Dashiell’s VP of Engineering.
Duties & Responsibilities- Ensure projects are managed to meet quality, schedule, and profitability objectives.
- Supervise effort of several project teams to ensure on‑time completion of multiple projects.
- Assign projects to engineering teams based on requirements, schedule, and availability.
- Coordinate with project engineers, construction, and purchasing to meet milestones.
- Ensure project teams use project‑specific standards and that design efforts progress efficiently.
- Communicate and coordinate activities with customer representatives, management, and others.
- Prepare and track project schedules and budgets to keep projects on schedule and within budget.
- Apply engineering application software for ground grid design, relay coordination, transformer sizing, and short‑circuit/load‑flow studies.
- Perform project engineering and design functions when necessary.
- Ensure teams apply engineering standards (NEC, NESC, IEEE, ANSI).
- Use the document management system properly.
- Ensure team members work responsibly and own their work.
- Travel out of town for short periods as required.
- Maintain job safety analysis sheets.
- Perform special projects and other duties as assigned.
- Drive consistent project execution by holding engineering teams accountable to quality, schedule, and budget targets across a portfolio of simultaneous substation projects.
- Maximize team productivity through strategic resource assignment, balancing workload, skill development, and project priorities.
- Enable seamless cross‑functional coordination between engineering, construction, and procurement to reduce rework and accelerate delivery.
- Serve as a technical authority and mentor, elevating the engineering capability of project teams and contributing to a culture of continuous improvement.
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering from an accredited university.
- Licensed Professional Engineer (PE). If licensed in a state other than the state of practice, must obtain license within one year of hire.
- Minimum of 15 years’ experience in the electrical power industry with extensive substation engineering and design knowledge.
- Experience managing multi‑discipline design teams including engineers, designers, and drafters.
- Extensive knowledge of high‑voltage substation components (138 kV and above), AC/DC fundamentals, and three‑phase power systems.
