IMEG is hiring a Transportation Engineering Intern in Austin, TX. Over 10-12 weeks, you will assist with engineering analysis, design, field inspections, report writing, permit applications, and site drainage and grading design while learning the transportation engineering trade.
You will work within project budgets, collaborate with cross-functional teams, and support project goals and client expectations. This role supports municipal and transportation work in Central Texas while giving you hands-on experience alongside experienced engineers and consultants.

What You’ll DoAssist with transportation-project design for highways, bridges, transit systems, and multimodal transportation networks according to code and IMEG standards.
Research resources for commercially available equipment.
Support client relations, project design notebooks, and permanent record documentation.
Coordinate design and schedules with other disciplines, including architectural, structural, electrical, mechanical, technology, clerical, and equipment suppliers.
Document design decisions, meetings, and client instructions while monitoring project design progress.
Review project documents for accuracy and completeness prior to final check.
Assist with preparation and issuance of addendum information.
Conduct periodic job site observations and other services required by the contract services agreement.
Required
Education and Experience
- Completed at least 2 years towards a Bachelor of Science (BS) Degree in Civil Engineering, or equivalent required
Skills and Abilities
May be required to assist with field duties such as surveying and materials testing
Strong interest in design consulting
Skill in the use of Microsoft Office programs, CAD software and BIM
Ability to clearly communicate in both oral and written communication to individuals or groups
Preferred
- Prior internship experience in the building design consulting industry preferred
- Austin-based civil team serving Central Texas transportation, municipal, and site development work.
