Purpose

The Research Engineering/Scientist Associate III will perform research activities for Dr. Paola Passalacqua's research project on Surface Water and Ocean Topography. This position will be appointed 20-hours per week.

Responsibilities
  • Apply Surface Water and Ocean Topography (SWOT) satellite data to river discharge estimation, hydrologic modeling, and water resources research.

  • Develop and implement methods and workflows for data processing, quality control, analysis, and interpretation of SWOT data products.

  • Develop and evaluate rating curves and discharge estimation methods using SWOT observations, in situ gauge data, and remote sensing datasets.

  • Compare SWOT observations and model outputs against other satellite datasets and ground-based observations to assess accuracy and consistency.

  • Perform statistical analyses to evaluate model performance, discharge uncertainty, and error propagation in SWOT-based estimates.

  • Analyze large geospatial and remote sensing datasets using scripting/programming tools.

  • Prepare manuscripts for submission to peer-reviewed journals and contribute to the broader scientific literature.

  • Write technical reports, research summaries, data documentation, and conference papers summarizing methods and findings.
