Director of SEC Reporting and Technical Accounting

Our client, a publicly traded SAAS organization, is seeking an experienced reporting leader to oversee its SEC reporting function and external financial disclosures. This individual will play a central role in ensuring the accuracy, timeliness, and compliance of all public filings while partnering closely with finance leadership, legal, and external auditors.

This is a high-visibility role with meaningful influence over financial reporting quality, technical accounting decisions, and internal control effectiveness.

External Reporting & SEC Filings

• Lead the preparation and review of quarterly and annual filings, including Forms 10-Q, 10-K, 8-K, and proxy statements
• Oversee the development of supporting schedules, disclosure checklists, and detailed tie-out documentation
• Ensure compliance with all SEC rules and public company reporting standards

Technical Accounting & Policy

• Research complex accounting matters and draft formal technical accounting memoranda
• Evaluate and implement new accounting standards and regulatory guidance issued by FASB and the SEC
• Serve as a subject matter expert on U.S. GAAP and disclosure requirements

Equity & Earnings Per Share

• Direct accounting and administration related to equity programs
• Oversee share pool analysis, stock-based compensation accounting, and EPS calculations (basic and diluted)

Close Process & Financial Analysis

• Partner with the general ledger team during monthly and quarterly close cycles
• Participate in close review meetings to validate accounting treatment of significant transactions
• Prepare and present variance analyses comparing actual results to prior periods and forecasts

Audit & Compliance

• Coordinate quarterly reviews and annual audit procedures with external auditors
• Collaborate with internal and external legal counsel to ensure regulatory compliance

Cross-Functional Leadership

• Work directly with executive leadership to communicate key reporting matters
• Drive reporting process enhancements and efficiency improvements
• Lead or contribute to enterprise-wide initiatives and special projects as needed

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting from an accredited institution
• Active CPA required; background in public accounting strongly preferred (Big 4 experience a plus)
• 8–12 years of progressive experience in financial reporting and/or public accounting
• Prior experience with SEC reporting in a publicly traded company environment
• Deep understanding of U.S. GAAP and SEC disclosure requirements
• Demonstrated ability to manage multiple deadlines in a fast-paced reporting environment
• Strong communication skills with the ability to translate complex accounting matters to senior leadership
• Proven track record leading cross-functional initiatives and large-scale reporting projects
