Fixed Income Portfolio Manager

Position Overview — The Portfolio Manager performs advanced, senior‑level asset management work focused on fundamental investment research, due diligence, and portfolio construction. This role contributes across multiple asset classes, with a particular emphasis on Global Fixed Income and Absolute Return (Hedge Fund) strategies. Working under minimal supervision and with significant independent judgment, the Portfolio Manager supports the CIO and Head of Public Fixed Income in sourcing, evaluating, and overseeing external investment managers.

The role may oversee and assign work to investment analysts and contribute meaningfully to strategic investment decisions.

Key Responsibilities Investment Research & Manager Selection (35%)
  • Support the CIO and Head of Public Fixed Income in monitoring existing strategies and evaluating new investment opportunities.
  • Source, screen, and conduct qualitative and quantitative analysis of external asset managers, strategies, and funds.
  • Perform deep due diligence across organization, investment process, portfolio fit, and risk‑adjusted performance.
  • Prepare comprehensive investment memoranda and present recommendations to the Investment Committee.
  • Monitor macroeconomic and industry trends; contribute to or lead bespoke research projects.
  • Recommend and assist in negotiating investment management terms and agreements.
Portfolio Oversight & Reporting (35%)
  • Serve as primary relationship manager for assigned external investment managers.
  • Lead portfolio reporting efforts, including preparation of periodic reviews and materials for internal and Board presentations.
  • Conduct ongoing monitoring of portfolio performance, risk exposures, and cash flows.
  • Prepare analysis to support sizing and allocation decisions.
  • Coordinate communications among external managers, custodians, consultants, administrators, and internal teams (Legal, Risk, Accounting).
  • Assist in developing investment policies and ensuring compliance with policies and regulations.
Strategic Contribution & Development (20%)
  • Support development of tactical and strategic investment themes.
  • Participate in internal investment discussions and collaborate with external consultants.
  • Stay informed on macroeconomic, geopolitical, and market developments.
  • Attend industry conferences and professional development programs.
Additional Responsibilities (10%)
  • Perform related duties as assigned.
  • Uphold confidentiality, regulatory compliance, and information security standards.
Minimum Qualifications Education
  • Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, Mathematics, Business Administration, or related field.
Preferred Education
  • MBA, JD, or other relevant graduate degree.
Experience
  • Minimum 10 years of institutional asset management, investment consulting, banking, or related financial services experience.
  • Experience allocating capital to external managers in public fixed income and/or hedge fund strategies.
  • Strong proficiency in portfolio modeling, risk assessment, and performance analysis.
  • Demonstrated experience conducting manager due diligence.
  • Collaborative, team‑oriented mindset.
Preferred Certifications
  • Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA)
  • Chartered Alternative Investment Analyst (CAIA)
Knowledge & Technical Skills Knowledge of
  • Statistical methods and their application to investment research
  • Financial accounting and securities markets
  • Macroeconomic theory and capital markets
  • Investment analysis principles and terminology
Technical Skills
  • Advanced quantitative analysis and financial modeling
