Here’s What You’ll Be Doing- Perform advanced financial analysis for the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ).
- Perform complex analysis of financial information to determine the ability of responsible parties to pay penalties and/or pay for environmental damages.
- Conduct public record searches and other investigations to evaluate the completeness and accuracy of the financial information of respondents.
- Prepare reports summarizing the results of financial analyses designed for non-financial staff; document analyses, findings, and work papers for hearings and settlement conferences.
- Conduct interviews, generally by telephone, with respondents, attorneys, accountants; testify in court or legal proceedings as an expert witness.
- Assist the Financial Assurance Unit with special projects as assigned.
- Perform financial stability assessments of prospective non‑profit grant recipients.
- Experience performing financial analysis for non‑credit related reasons.
- Experience performing financial analysis related to ability to pay or credit capacity (e.g., bank lending).
- A bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with a major in accounting, finance, economics, business, public administration, or a related field, plus three years of full‑time experience in lending, credit analysis, financial analysis, budget analysis, or financial regulatory work. Completion of an internship in the areas listed may substitute for six months of the required experience.
- OR certification as a public accountant (CPA) plus two years of full‑time experience in lending, credit analysis, financial analysis, or financial regulatory work.
- Employees in this classification series may research, work on, or have access to critical infrastructure, including but not limited to a communication infrastructure system, cybersecurity system, electric grid, hazardous waste treatment system, or water treatment facility. Accordingly, the ability to maintain the security or integrity of the infrastructure is a requirement to be hired for and to continue to be employed with TCEQ.

Current TCEQ EmployeesThis position is also available as a lateral transfer opportunity (LTO) to TCEQ employees within the Financial Analyst II state classification. The selected candidate must meet the minimum qualifications of the corresponding job in the Financial Analyst II series.
Work ScheduleStandard business hours are M‑F, 8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. Individual and work group schedule determined by the TCEQ Financial Administration Division.
