Strategic Controller - CPG

Tarvos Talent is partnering with a high-growth, venture-backed CPG company to hire a Controller in Austin, TX (South Austin HQ). This is a rare opportunity to join a scaling brand with strong retail momentum and build a finance function alongside an experienced VP of Finance. • Own and lead the month-end close process, driving improvements in accuracy, timing, and scalability
• Prepare and review monthly and quarterly financial reporting packages in accordance with US GAAP for leadership, board, and investors
• Manage trade accruals, deduction processes, and ensure disciplined, repeatable operating cadence
• Build and strengthen internal controls, accounting policies, and SOPs to support growth and audit readiness
• Establish standardized close checklists, reconciliations, and reporting workflows across the organization
• Partner on finance systems optimization, including QBO, CIN7, and reporting tools, while driving automation initiatives
• Oversee revenue recognition across retail, DTC, and international channels
• Manage inventory accounting across multiple regions and production partners
• Supervise AP, AR, payroll, cash management, and bank reconciliations
• Support multi-entity consolidation efforts across U.S., Canada, and UK operations
• Lead and develop accounting resources, including a junior accountant and external partners

• CPA required with 8+ years of progressive accounting experience, including 3+ years in a Controller or Assistant Controller role
• Strong CPG experience required, ideally within retail distribution and trade-spend-heavy environments
• Proven expertise in trade promotion accruals and deduction management
• Experience building accounting processes, controls, and reporting structures in a scaling organization
• Multi-entity and multi-currency experience (U.S. and Canada required; UK exposure preferred)
• Background in public accounting (Big 4 or national firm) is a plus
• Hands‑on experience with modern systems such as Quick Books Online, CIN7, Avalara, and Ramp
• Demonstrated ability to leverage automation and AI tools to improve close and reporting processes
• Comfortable operating in a high-growth, investor-backed environment with strong accountability
• Strong leadership, communication, and cross‑functional collaboration skills
