Overview

Job :  |  Services LLC. The NA Design & Construction (D&C) Cost Management team within Global Engineering Services (GES) seeks a Construction Cost Manager to manage a portfolio of industrial construction projects in North America. This individual-contributor role drives cost certainty across multiple projects, reports on overall financial health to leaders, and supports cost management frameworks.

Key Responsibilities Cost Management & Governance
  • Execute end-to-end cost management functions aligned with cost planning, cost control, cost forecasting, and cost reporting across multiple assigned projects.
  • Maintain compliance with Amazon's internal cost management governance standards, including cost authority thresholds and approval workflows.
Budget Management & Cost Controls
  • Track and report cost performance metrics.
  • Implement and maintain cost control processes, including cost baselines, work breakdown structures, and cost breakdown structures.
  • Create and maintain processes for timely cost variance identification and escalation per established thresholds.
  • Review, analyze, and challenge cost and time change requests from external partners.
  • Manage contingencies and monthly cost reporting with a bias toward automation.
Change Management
  • Understand end-to-end change control process management (receipt, evaluation, negotiation, disposition) and apply AACE standards.
  • Develop and review change order logs, commitment registers, and audit-trail documentation.
  • Collaborate with construction managers to review and validate change orders, including proposed costs, scope, and contractual terms.
External Partner & Stakeholder Management
  • Develop strong partnerships with Construction Managers, Preconstruction Managers, Design, Procurement, Finance, and Operations teams.
  • Align cost reporting and estimating deliverables with external project managers, architects, general contractors, and consultants.
  • Identify project risks including financial cost impacts and communicate them to the Cost Management Manager and cross-functional partners.
Communication & Reporting
  • Contribute to daily, weekly, and monthly cost reports with a bias toward automation.
  • Communicate cost metrics, trends, and recommendations effectively (verbal and written) to cross-functional teams and senior stakeholders.
Data Analytics & Technology
  • Explore and implement generative AI and automation tools to accelerate cost estimating, change order analysis, variance reporting, and lessons-learned extraction.
  • Apply fundamentals on cost management platforms (Procore, Ecosys, Oracle Unifier) and advanced Excel capabilities (Power Query, pivot tables, array formulas, macros).
A Day in the Life

As a Construction Cost Manager, you will work primarily with Construction Managers and act as a strategic advisor on all cost functions across multiple projects. You will independently manage cost tracking, change order validation, and financial reporting for your assigned portfolio while collaborating with Finance, Planning, and Design teams to predict project costs at a network level. You will support financial white papers, identify cost savings opportunities, and drive process improvements within your workstream.

You will make trade-offs between time, quality, and resources on your assigned projects, escalating strategic decisions to your manager as appropriate.

Travel

Approximately 25% regional travel within North America, with potential travel to all North America locations based on business needs.

Basic Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Architecture, Construction Management, Engineering, or a related field
  • Experience as an Architect, Engineer, Construction Manager, Development Manager, Owner's project management representative, or in other Commercial Development and Construction related disciplines
  • 5+ years of construction cost management, cost engineering, estimating, or quantity surveying experience
  • Proficiency with cost management software, scheduling tools (Primavera P6, MS Project, or similar), and advanced Excel
