Position Overview

The City of Austin manages over $4 billion across multiple fixed‑income investment portfolios. This position plays a key role in supporting the City’s investment strategy and financial stewardship responsibilities.

Key Responsibilities
  • Maintain the Portfolio Management System daily for the City’s $4.0 billion fixed income portfolio. Document and verify all direct investment trades, interest payments, call, maturities, money markets, and Local Government Investment Pool transactions.
  • Investment Reporting and Accounting – Prepare investment accounting entries and standard reports for all funds – which requires meeting monthly deadlines.
  • Investment Trading – Facilitate daily investment trading with the City’s Custodian by recording trades in on-line platform, monitoring trade settlement, and coordinating and resolving any potential trade issues with the custodian and/or City’s broker/dealers. Assist with Investment market research on investments.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Graduation with a Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with major coursework in a field related to Finance, Accounting, or Economics, plus four (4) years of experience in a related field.
  • Graduation with a Master’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics, Business or Public Administration or other relevant field from an accredited college or university may be substituted for two (2) years of experience.
  • A five (5) year accounting (MAcy) degree or CPA designation may be substituted for one (1) year of experience.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Knowledge of fixed income accounting
  • Knowledge of PFIA Texas Government Code 2256
  • Experience in governmental fund accounting
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel skills
  • Preferred certifications: CPA, CTP
  • Ability to travel to more than one work location
