Retail Mortgage Loan Originator – Austin, Texas
Responsible for delivering a full life‑cycle mortgage origination experience for residential first‑time borrowers referred through outside sources. You will maintain compliance with Fifth Third Mortgage Company policies, win new referral contacts, manage the pipeline, and drive closing results in a timely manner while delivering exceptional customer service.
General FunctionPerform a wide range of duties related to the origination of residential first‑time mortgage loans for outside referrals. Assume overall responsibility for each loan from application to closing, and be accountable for assessing, managing, monitoring and reporting risks while operating within the bank’s risk appetite.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities- Develop referral contacts such as realtors, builders and other professional and personal contacts.
- Maintain knowledge of Fifth Third Mortgage Company policies, loan products, processing procedures, underwriting and departmental guidelines.
- Follow defined protocol for escalation and exceptions.
- Take applicant applications by completing the Fannie Mae form 1003 on the laptop.
- Utilize the laptop for communication, daily rates, applicant credit reports, Loan Prospector responses and transmitting the loan to LOMAS.
- Collect appropriate documentation from each applicant and deliver the loan package within management‑defined time frames.
- Manage the pipeline for all originated loans through closing and complete required management reports.
- Communicate with branches and applicants to provide timely updates and progress reports.
- Maintain high levels of customer service while managing each applicant’s and support staff’s expectations.
- Attend and participate in all Consumer Lending meetings as required by management.
- High school diploma or equivalent mandatory; four‑year college degree preferred.
- Knowledge of conventional and/or government lending guidelines.
- Knowledge of residential mortgage processing, underwriting and closing procedures.
- Knowledge of federal real‑estate lending regulations.
- Demonstrated organizational, written and verbal communication skills.
- Demonstrated teamwork and customer‑service skills.
- Proven computer skills and basic sales technique skills.
- Strong desire to excel in a competitive environment.
- S.A.F.E. Act registration required at the time of employment through the NMLS.
Compensation is largely incentive‑based, combined with either a base salary or a draw to determine total cash compensation.
