Position

Summary

The Sr. Credit Officer I provides senior‑level credit analysis, underwriting, and portfolio servicing support for assigned participation accounts and offerings. Responsibilities include evaluating complex commercial and agricultural credits, exercising delegated lending authority where authorized, and preparing recommendations for matters requiring higher approval. The role supports association relationship management, evaluates direct and other financing institution lending programs, and contributes industry, peer group, and portfolio analysis to inform credit decision‑making, portfolio risk management, and bank lending strategy.

Responsibilities
  • Perform financial analysis, credit administration, portfolio monitoring, and due diligence on official loans, excess loans, and loan participation packages received from district associations or other commercial lenders.
  • Act on association official loans, excess loans, prior approval loans, and loan servicing actions within delegated authority and prepare recommendations for loan committee consideration on transactions exceeding delegated authority.
  • Interpret, communicate, and provide guidance to associations regarding sound lending practices, credit expectations, and applicable lending procedures.
  • Interpret and address legal, title, and related issues that arise in connection with assigned loans and credit relationships.
  • Assist in developing and administering lending programs and in revising operating procedures related to lending operations.
  • Assist management in evaluating the Bank’s direct lending and other financing institution lending programs.
  • Assist district associations in the development and closing of complex loans through credit analysis, structuring input, and negotiation support.
  • Develop loan participation and correspondent banking relationships with other lenders and manage and supervise assigned participation loan relationships in accordance with supervisory direction.
  • Prepare industry analysis, peer group analysis, portfolio analysis, and other special project work as assigned.
  • Assist other Bank personnel in completing coordinated projects as assigned.
Qualifications Required
  • Bachelor’s degree in agricultural economics, finance, business administration, or another related business field, or commensurate experience.
  • Seven to ten plus years of experience in all facets of lending, including marketing, extension, administration, and analysis of commercial credits and agricultural production loans.
  • Experience analyzing complex credits and negotiating and administering large loans over five million dollars.
  • Experience working with management and senior loan officers of other financial institutions in structuring and evaluating official loans, excess loans above delegated authorities, loan participations, and direct loan or correspondent lending relationships.
  • Demonstrated expertise in credit administration, financial analysis, loan analysis software, accounting standards, credit policies, and lending procedures.
Preferred
  • Experience supporting lending program development, operating procedure revision, and portfolio analysis within a regulated financial services environment.
  • Experience working with agricultural production loans, mortgage loans, and complex commercial credits.
  • Experience developing correspondent banking and loan participation relationships.
  • Demonstrated ability to provide guidance to associations and to support complex loan structuring and negotiations.
