Position Overview

The Vice President of Finance + Accounting (VPFA) is responsible for managing the collection and recording of all pertinent finance and accounting data and transactions. This includes oversight of general ledgers, accounts payables/receivables, billings, audits, and managing the annual budget process. The VPFA is responsible for hiring, training and management of all accounting associates. In addition, the Vice President of Finance will oversee grants accounting, payroll and contract management.

Key Responsibilities
  • Financial Accounting & Reporting:
    Provides strategic oversight of accounting operations and financial reporting, ensuring the integrity of the general ledger, timely completion of monthly and quarterly close processes, accurate financial statements, effective liquidity monitoring, account reconciliations, and appropriate management of fixed assets and investment accounting.
  • Budgeting, Forecasting & Financial Analysis:
    Leads the organization’s budgeting, forecasting, and financial analysis processes, monitoring financial performance and variances while identifying trends, risks, cost-saving opportunities, and other insights that strengthen financial performance and support organizational decision-making.
  • Internal Controls, Policies & Financial Stewardship:
    Establishes and maintains effective financial policies, procedures, and internal controls that safeguard organizational assets, promote accurate and efficient financial operations, mitigate financial risk, and ensure responsible stewardship of organizational resources.
  • Audit, Tax & Regulatory Compliance:
    Provides oversight of annual audits, tax reporting, cost reports, and other financial compliance requirements, ensuring accurate and timely preparation of supporting documentation and serving as a key liaison with auditors, tax advisors, and other external partners.
  • Grants & Restricted Funding Management:
    Provides financial oversight of government grants and other restricted funding, ensuring accurate budgeting, accounting, reconciliations, reporting, and claim submissions while maintaining compliance with applicable funder and regulatory requirements.
  • Payroll & Benefits Financial Administration:
    Oversees payroll and related benefits financial administration, ensuring accurate and timely processing, effective systems and internal controls, appropriate reconciliations, and compliance with organizational and regulatory requirements.
  • Financial Performance & Executive Decision Support:
    Provides executive leadership with meaningful financial reporting, performance metrics, analysis, and recommendations that inform strategic and operational decisions, strengthen organizational performance, and support achievement of financial and organizational goals.
  • Performance Measurement & Continuous Improvement:
    Establishes department performance measures, evaluates marketing and communications effectiveness, and uses data and insights to continuously improve strategies, operations, and organizational impact.
  • Department Leadership & Staff Development:
    Leads and develops a high-performing Finance & Accounting team by establishing clear goals and accountability, managing performance, providing coaching and developmental feedback, and building the technical, professional, and leadership capabilities necessary to achieve departmental and organizational priorities.
