Director of Financial Planning
Location: Austin, TX / Texas-based required
Schedule: Hybrid, Monday–Thursday in office, Fridays remote
Compensation:
Up to $170K DOE plus Bonus

A growing wealth management and financial services platform is seeking a Director of Financial Planning to join its Advanced Planning function. This role will support independent financial advisors, RIAs, and their clients with complex financial planning needs while helping strengthen and scale the firm’s planning capabilities.

This is a high-visibility role for a senior planning professional who enjoys working directly with advisors and clients, serving as a trusted technical planning resource, and improving how planning is delivered across a broader advisor network.

This is not a traditional advisor role focused on managing your own book of business, and it is not a sales-driven position. The ideal candidate will bring strong planning credibility, excellent communication skills, and the ability to partner with advisors in a consultative, practical, and client-focused way.

Responsibilities
  • Serve as a senior financial planning resource to advisors, RIAs, and their clients
  • Support complex planning conversations across retirement, estate, tax, investment, insurance, risk management, and wealth transfer planning
  • Help advisors identify planning opportunities and deliver clear, actionable recommendations
  • Partner with internal teams to improve planning workflows, deliverables, tools, and service models
  • Assist with advisor education, planning content, presentations, webinars, whitepapers, and best practices
  • Use planning software and Excel modeling to support scenario analysis and planning recommendations
  • Help increase advisor adoption of financial planning resources and planning technology
  • Mentor and support planning team members as the function continues to grow
  • Contribute to the ongoing build‑out and modernization of the Advanced Planning function
Qualifications
  • Active CFP® designation required
  • 7+ years of financial planning, wealth planning, advanced planning, or related experience
  • Experience working with financial advisors, RIAs, or advisor teams strongly preferred
  • Experience supporting HNW clients required; UHNW or $10MM+ net worth exposure preferred
  • Strong knowledge across retirement, estate, tax, investment, insurance, and wealth transfer planning
  • Ability to identify planning opportunities and coordinate with CPAs, estate attorneys, and other professionals when needed
  • Experience with planning technology such as eMoney, Money Guide Pro , Right Capital, Holistiplan, or similar tools
  • Strong Excel and financial modeling skills preferred
  • Strong advisor-facing and client-facing communication skills
  • Comfortable in a growing/rebuilding function where process, structure, and tools are still being refined
  • Texas-based candidates required;
    Austin area strongly preferred
Ideal Profile

The right candidate will be a senior planning professional who can bring technical credibility, advisor trust, and a practical planning approach. This person should be comfortable engaging with advisors, asking the right questions, identifying planning opportunities, and helping clients understand complex planning concepts in a clear and approachable way.

This person should also be energized by the opportunity to help shape a growing Advanced Planning function, improve planning delivery, and create a stronger experience for advisors and their clients.

Why This Opportunity
  • High-visibility role reporting into Advanced Planning leadership
  • Opportunity to help rebuild and scale a planning function
  • Direct exposure to advisors, RIAs, and complex client planning needs
  • Strong platform environment with meaningful advisor impact
  • Combination of technical planning, advisor engagement, planning technology, and process improvement
  • Hybrid schedule with Fridays remote
