The Texas Public Policy Foundation (TPPF) is a 501(c)3 nonprofit research-based think tank in Austin, Texas. Established in 1989, TPPF promotes conservative principles and develops free-market approaches to public policy challenges affecting Texans and all Americans. To achieve its mission, TPPF analyzes complex issues, creates legislative policy solutions, and advocates for those solutions at the Texas Legislature, Congress, and other public forums.

Description:
The Policy Scholar will specifically focus on energy and water policy with the goal of ensuring that Texas has an abundant supply of water and affordable, reliable energy. This position will conduct in-depth research supporting the Life:
Powered campaign’s legislative priorities, develop policy recommendations, and advocate for reforms that advance the Foundation’s goals.
The ideal candidate for this role is inquisitive and entrepreneurial, with demonstrated knowledge and experience in electricity markets and/or water supply, quality, and infrastructure.
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:- Conduct original research and quantitative/qualitative analysis of energy and water policy
- Produce high-quality scholarship with the aim of academic publication
- Educate lawmakers and members of the public on complex issues impacting the availability of affordable, reliable electricity and water in Texas
- Assist the Life:
Powered campaign with the development of policy recommendations - Provide formal testimony, as needed, in legislative hearings and other public forums
- Take advantage of both internal and external ongoing development opportunities
- Represent the Foundation in media as required.
- Two or more years of experience in energy and/or water policy
- Demonstrable ability to produce top-tier academic research
- Strong research and writing abilities
- Strong quantitative and qualitative analysis skillset, including experience with Microsoft Excel and statistical software packages like SPSS, Stata, R, and the like
- Bachelor’s degree in relevant field, science, or engineering preferred
