As part of TCEQ’s Office of Water, you will contribute to ensuring clean and available water and protecting Texas’ water resources. This position is a member of our Water Quality Division.

Responsibilities
  • Assist in writing routine domestic Texas Pollutant Discharge Elimination System (TPDES) permits and participate in other permit-related activities for the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ).
  • Prepare routine TPDES domestic individual and/or general permits and/or authorizations in accordance with state and federal rules, policies, and guidelines; applications for new, renewal, or amendment of municipal wastewater permits.
  • Assist in communicating basic information concerning permits and the permitting process to applicants, agency staff, the public, and the regulated community; attend meetings, and respond to telephone calls and letters.
  • Aid in responding to comments on assigned permits and in preparing responses to comments documents; revise permits and other documents as needed.
  • Assist with administrative special projects as assigned.
  • Participate in the resolution of routine contested permit applications by assisting senior staff or the team leader in alternative dispute resolutions, attending public meetings, and assisting in the preparation of expert testimony for public hearings before an Administrative Law Judge or the Commission.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with a major in engineering, physical science, environmental science, or a related field.
  • Knowledge of state and federal environmental regulations and permitting processes.
  • Ability to maintain the security or integrity of critical infrastructure as defined by Tex. Business Commerce Code §117.001(2).
  • Acceptance of a requirement for documentation of college transcript or foreign credential evaluation in CAPPS when needed.
  • Must meet the minimum qualifications of the corresponding job in the Environmental Permit Specialist I series (for lateral transfer to TCEQ employees).
Work Schedule

Standard business hours are Monday–Friday, 8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.; schedule determined by the TCEQ Water Quality Division.
