Position: Director of Government Relations (Texas)

Advanced Power Alliance (APA) is seeking a Director of Government Relations (Texas) to support and expand the organization's advocacy efforts across the Texas Legislature, the Public Utility Commission of Texas (PUCT), and ERCOT.

This position will report to the Vice President and work closely with APA leadership to help craft and execute the organization's legislative, regulatory, and political strategy in Texas. The role is central to APA's engagement on behalf of advanced power industries investing in the country’s largest market for this work.

Interested candidates should submit a resume, cover letter, and a writing sample to alerts.

About the Advanced Power Alliance

Throughout the Electric Reliability Council of Texas (ERCOT), Southwest Power Pool (SPP), and Southeast regions of the United States, the Advanced Power Alliance promotes the development of advanced energy technologies that deliver clean, reliable, and affordable power for consumers, businesses, and manufacturers. In the states where we operate, APA is a leading advocate for an all-of-the-above energy strategy, grounded in the understanding that a robust electric supply is essential to economic strength and long-term growth.

Why

We’re Hiring This Role

The APA is widely regarded an effective and strategically disciplined organization at the Texas Capitol. However, as APA's footprint, membership, and policy engagement have grown, so too has the scope of its work across legislatures and regulatory agencies.

The Vice President's time is increasingly dedicated to coordinating broader efforts and providing targeted, high-level support on priority issues within the larger organization. As a result, APA has identified a clear and important need to strengthen consistent, day-to-day relationship‑building with influential legislative staff and policymakers.

This role is designed to fill that gap. A dedicated Director of Government Relations will provide a regular presence at the Texas Capitol, deepen relationships with key staff who are shaping policy outcomes today, and ensure APA's voice remains both credible and accessible across the institutions we serve that are so essential to the industry’s long‑term success.

  • Play a critical role in shaping state legislative and regulatory outcomes affecting the advanced power industries APA represents.
  • Serve as one of APA’s primary public-facing representatives in Texas, engaging legislators, regulators, staff, and industry stakeholders.
  • Support and execute strategic advocacy efforts aligned with APA member priorities.
  • Monitor, analyze, and report on legislative proposals, regulatory proceedings, and relevant political developments.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with state policymakers, legislative staff, regulators, and other stakeholders—particularly within the power and energy sectors.
  • Work alongside the Vice President to coordinate and help direct a team of contract lobbyists, consultants, and subject-matter experts.
  • Support APA’s continued growth by assisting with member recruitment and retention, and by helping identify funding opportunities, including grants and strategic partnerships.
  • Assist with planning and execution of advocacy days at the Capitol, legislative receptions, and select APA board or member functions.
  • Participate in relevant fundraisers, association meetings, and Capitol events consistent with APA’s mission and goals.
  • Ensure all advocacy and lobbying activities are conducted in compliance with applicable laws and ethical standards.
  • Perform other reasonable duties as assigned.
Ideal Candidate Profile
  • Brings strong policy expertise and political instincts, with the ability to advocate complex issues effectively and diplomatically.
  • Self-motivated, highly organized, and comfortable operating in a fast‑paced environment.
  • Demonstrates a commitment to the continued growth and success of advanced power industries in Texas.
  • Represents the industry with professionalism and credibility.
  • Familiar with—or eager to develop expertise in—the Texas electricity market, including engagement with the Legislature, PUCT, and ERCOT.
  • Existing relationships with Texas energy policymakers and stakeholders…
