Position Summary

The Director of Public Affairs performs highly advanced (senior level) managerial and public affairs work providing direction, guidance, and supervision to the Office of Public Affairs. Work includes establishing goals and objectives and developing, reviewing, and implementing department policies, procedures, and guidelines. This position will work closely with senior leaders across TXCC to drive strategic initiatives, goals, and objectives. Leads the vision and strategic direction of the Public Affairs Office.

Oversees the building and maintaining of relationships with internal and external stakeholders. The Director of Public Affairs works under minimal supervision with extensive latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment.
  • Oversees the Office of Public Affairs department and its staff;
    Communicates pertinent information to the appropriate staff regarding legislative meetings and decisions;
    Develops, maintains, and reports on legislation, policies, programs, and initiatives that affect the agency at the state, federal, and local level;
    Formulates plans, develops schedules, and establishes clear direction aligned with agency objectives.
  • Develops proper protocol and procedures for communicating with legislators and staff; develops, conducts, and evaluates legislative training.
  • Attends legislative hearings and meetings with legislators, legislative staff, and other legislative liaisons.
  • Provides summaries of legislative hearings to agency management, including current and proposed legislation; records and coordinates action items and deliverables as a result of legislative meetings and hearings; ensures deliverables are complete.
  • Establishes collaborative and sustainable long-term relationships with legislators, regulators, external stakeholders, and other local government officials.
