About This Position
The Municipal Court is the judicial branch of local government in the City of Austin. It handles the lowest level criminal offenses in Texas, including traffic violations, city ordinances, juvenile cases, and disabled parking. Court services are provided onsite, online, by telephone, email, and mail.
PurposeUnder general supervision, the employee performs skilled clerical tasks in a major administrative area and supports courtroom and administrative functions.
Duties, Functions and Responsibilities- Review completed paperwork and system updates and provide feedback as appropriate.
- Perform cashier duties and balance money at the end of each shift.
- Balance disbursement and daily deposit reports and monitor over payments.
- Correct financial errors, process expungement cases and appeals.
- Serve as liaison to judges, the Austin Police Department (APD), Jail, Pretrial Services, and other county and law‑enforcement agencies.
- Notify DPS of activity on juvenile failures to appear or pay.
- File and prepare civil cases, accept motions and subpoenas.
- Prepare and process alias capias warrants, Williamson County warrants and commitments, sealed cases, search and juvenile warrants, and respond to bankruptcy letters.
- Maintain organization and flow of court records.
- Monitor entry of traffic, parking and criminal citations into the computer system.
- Coordinate work schedules, train staff, answer questions from staff and the public about court operations.
- Provide leadership, work assignments, evaluation, training and guidance to others (if applicable).

- Ability to exercise discretion in confidential matters.
- Graduation from an accredited high school or equivalent plus six (6) years of related experience.
- Associate’s degree plus four (4) years of related experience.
- Leadership experience.
- Experience training others on work‑related tasks.
- Effective communication skills.
- Experience in change management.
- Willingness to obtain introductory level Clerk certification through the Texas Court Clerks Association within twenty‑four months of employment.

Days and HoursSchedule may include days, evenings, nights, weekends and/or holidays. The Municipal Court operates 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Schedule/location may change based upon business needs.
CBISelected top candidates must pass a Criminal Justice Information Systems (CJIS) fingerprint‑based background check and maintain CJIS eligibility. Disqualifying factors include felony convictions, felony deferred adjudication, class A & B misdemeanor deferred adjudication, class B misdemeanor convictions, an open arrest for any criminal offense (felony or misdemeanor), and family violence convictions.
