Position: Program Coordinator (Human Rights, Austin Equity and Inclusion)

Program Coordinator – Human Rights Division

Under general supervision or working independently, this position is responsible for the coordination of community activities and programs that advance the City of Austin’s human rights priorities.

Responsibilities
  • Develops and implements a variety of programs, projects, and activities.
  • Coordinates with existing organizations to address community economic or social service needs.
  • Conducts needs assessments and meets with community residents, leaders, and groups to identify needs and resources.
  • Collaborates with other organizations to plan and develop programs and improve coordination of existing services.
  • Researches funding sources, develops short‑ and long‑range plans, and compiles informational reports.
  • Serves as City representative before community groups, businesses, and/or the media.
  • Recruits, trains, and supervises volunteers.
  • Assists in developing and monitoring project and/or program budgets.
  • Assists in creating short‑ and long‑range plans.
  • Assists in developing and implementing operating policies and procedures.
  • Ensures compliance with City and other regulatory agency requirements and policies.
Leadership and Supervisory Duties
  • May provide leadership, work assignments, evaluation, training, and guidance to others.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Knowledge of applicable processes, techniques, and methods.
  • Knowledge of City practice, policy, and procedures.
  • Skill in handling conflict and uncertain situations.
  • Skill in handling multiple tasks and prioritizing.
  • Skill in using computers and related software applications.
  • Skill in data analysis and problem solving.
  • Skill in conducting presentations on behalf of a public entity.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective communication and working relationships with City employees and the public.
  • Ability to work with frequent interruptions and changes in priorities.
  • Ability to train others.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Graduation with a Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with major coursework related to the job.
  • At least three (3) years of experience in a related field, with up to four (4) years of experience substituting for education.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience managing complex programs or projects involving multiple stakeholders, competing priorities, and measurable outcomes.
  • Experience building and maintaining collaborative partnerships with community organizations, governmental agencies, and diverse stakeholder groups.
  • Experience facilitating meetings, public engagement, and presentations for diverse audiences.
  • Experience analyzing qualitative and quantitative data to inform policy, program development, and equity‑centered decision‑making.
  • Knowledge of human rights, equity, civil rights, or social justice principles and experience developing or implementing initiatives that advance equitable outcomes.

Salary and Work Details

Salary: $52,550 to $61,870 annually.

Location:

One Texas Center, 505 Barton Springs Road, Suite 500, Austin, TX 78704.

Hours:

Monday – Friday, 8:00am to 5:00pm.
