The Division

The Property Tax Assistance Division (PTAD) provides technical assistance to local governments and taxpayers on property tax issues. PTAD is split into two areas, Appraisal Operations and PTAD Programs, allowing the Division to meet customer needs and implement statutory requirements in many innovative ways.

General Description

The Comptroller's office is seeking a PTAD Programs Area Manager in the Property Tax Assistance Division. This role performs senior-level managerial work administering the daily operations of the PTAD Programs Area, including establishing goals, guidelines, and procedures to ensure timely and accurate outcomes for division statutory responsibilities. Oversees the efforts of PTAD staff for completion and programs in the Data Analysis and Technical Assistance section and the Outreach and Support section, including effectively and timely meeting program statutory requirements.

Represents the Property Tax Assistance Division at conferences and industry meetings.

Work Hours

Agency standard work hours are Monday through Friday from 8am to 5pm, 40 hours per week with occasional evening and weekend hours. Hours are subject to change based upon business need or division determination.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Graduation from an accredited college or university with a bachelor's degree.
  • Eight (8) years' management experience.
  • Five (5) years' experience working in government in a state agency, local government, or legislative office.
  • Three (3) years' experience developing external communications including writing and editing published information, including administrative rules, publications, large data sets, and informational materials.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Ten (10) years' management experience.
  • Eight (8) years' experience working in government in a state agency, local government, or legislative office.
  • Five (5) years' experience developing external communications including writing and editing published information, including administrative rules, publications, large data sets, and informational materials.
  • Experience in the property tax field.
Licenses/Certifications
  • Must have or be able to certify as a Registered Professional Appraiser (RPA) or Registered Texas Assessor Collector (RTA) within three years.
  • Estimated percent of travel:10%;
  • A valid Texas (or state of residency) driver's license and a satisfactory driving record are a condition of employment. Applicants offered an interview must present the following documents at or before the interview: A state issued driving record for the last 36 months; valid Texas driver's license (or state of residency driver's license); and current proof of automobile insurance.
