Job DetailsGeneral Notes Governmental Affairs and Initiatives (GAAI) seeks a reliable, organized, and collaborative student associate to strengthen our team and provide analytical support. Jeff Poole - Supervisor 10 hours weekly. Schedule to be determined with supervisor. Flexible, hybrid schedule. Office located ignment effective September 2026 - December 2026 with the possibility to extend. Position open to The University of Texas at Austin undergraduate or graduate students only.
PurposeThe Government Affairs Fiscal Analysis Student Associate supports the Government Affairs team by providing analysis of legislation's impact to the University of Texas and assists the office with reporting obligations to the Legislature and Governor. This role is ideal for students interested in state government, finance, legislative analysis, as well as policy and operations impacting state agencies and institutions of higher education.
Responsibilities- Collaborates with the Director of Fiscal Analysis to analyze legislation and its fiscal impact to the University.
- Tracks, monitors, and analyzes legislation for impact to the University.
- Communicates with various academic departments and units across campus to assist with compilation of the institution’s appropriations request.
- Engages with colleges, schools, and units to prepare fiscal note responses on proposed legislation.
- Assists with assembling briefing documents and presentation materials.
- Currently enrolled as a graduate or undergraduate student at the university.
- Field of Study:
Business Administration, Finance, Economics, Government or related fields. - Minimum GPA: 2.5+.
- Attention to detail and commitment to accuracy.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
- Strong written communication skills, with the ability to clearly and concisely provide non-biased neutral analysis.
- Willingness to learn and adapt to evolving project needs and feedback.
- Ability to work under tight deadlines.
- Relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate.
- Experience with Texas Legislature.
- Familiarity with spreadsheet analysis.
- Interest in finance, operations, and/or public policy.
$15.00/hour + depending on qualifications
Working ConditionsMay work around standard office conditions. Repetitive use of a keyboard at a workstation. Remote work environment. Use of manual dexterity.
