Position: Performance Research Assistant

Overview

The Neuromuscular Research Laboratory (NMRL)/Warrior Human Performance Research Center (WHPRC) is a state-of-the-science laboratory encompassing 11,600 square feet of space with capabilities in exercise physiology, bone adaptation, and morphology (HRpQCT and DEXA), exercise biochemistry, strength, and performance assessments. The mission is to mitigate musculoskeletal injuries and optimize human performance by conducting innovative, multi-disciplinary, basic, and applied research, translating scientific knowledge to enhance clinical decisions and education.

This research aims to improve quality of life and resiliency in athletic, military, and active populations. The vision is to be internationally recognized as a premier academic research center with faculty as thought leaders in human performance optimization and musculoskeletal injury prevention. Job Summary

Assists with and/or conducts laboratory experiments and routine tests and scientific tasks. Performs data and specimen collection and processing as well as equipment maintenance and setup. Ensures adherence to all established protocols and regulatory practices.

Essential Functions

The Neuromuscular Research Laboratory (NMRL)/Warrior Human Performance Research Laboratory (WHPRC) in the Department of Sports Medicine and Nutrition in the School of Health and Rehabilitation Sciences Division of Sports Medicine and Nutrition is seeking a qualified Research Assistant who will help support funded DoD research. The position will entail working across multiple studies and involve a wide array of focus areas to assess physical performance, physiological stress and adaptations.

We are looking for an individual who is organized, dependable, hard-working, and has excellent interpersonal skills.

The incumbent is responsible for performing all daily research activities at the Neuromuscular Research Laboratory/Warrior Human Performance Research Center testing including (but not limited to) the following:

  • data collection and management
  • administrative operations to include scheduling volunteers and tests
  • instruction of subjects collection, processing, analysis, and archiving of biomechanical, musculoskeletal, and physiological data

The position will require regular travel and occasionally early mornings/late evenings to conduct field research data collection. A reliable means of transportation is a must. Candidates should have research experience or a background at the bachelor’s and/or master’s level with human testing in the areas of physiology, kinesiology, biochemistry, sciences, or a similar field. Candidates with a background in strength and conditioning are preferred.
