Job Description
The Epidemiologist III is responsible for performing complex epidemiologic work. This position initiates, designs, plans, conducts, supervises, and directs epidemiological analysis of data related to vaccination coverage levels, vaccine-preventable diseases (VPD), and Infectious Disease & Prevention (IDP) program and systems analyses. Acts as subject matter expert on immunizations and coordinates with other state and federal agencies on all matters related to immunizations.
Addresses inquiries from physicians, health care facilities, state and national organizations, public health officials, and the general public regarding the vaccines, the immunization schedule, and immunization coverage. Prepares oral and written presentations describing the epidemiology vaccination coverage level data and other immunization-related data. Serves as lead for the immunization epidemiology team. Duties performed under limited supervision with extensive latitude for use of initiative and independent judgment.
Job Functions (EJFs)
- (35%) Epidemiology team lead: Initiates analysis, planning, developing, coordinating, and conducting specific epidemiological investigations or studies. Analyzes immunization coverage data from a multitude of sources. Prepares vaccination coverage summary reports using Word, Access, SAS, SQL, Tableau, ArcGIS, PowerPoint, and/or Excel. Compiles data for immunization program performance measures, indicators, outputs, efficiencies, and immunization forecasting. Directs the activities of the other epidemiologists on the team.
Maintains the immunization forecaster in the immunization information system (IIS). - (25%) Program evaluation: Evaluates programs by analyzing program data, program operations and outcomes, and funding allocation. Contributes to the design, implementation, and evaluation processes. Evaluates interventions intended to increase immunization coverage levels. Provides technical assistance for small-area analysis of immunization coverage. Assists in coordinating needs assessment activities for Immunization Unit funded programs. Conducts quality assurance (QA) reviews of immunization program activities.
Analyzes immunization agreements for which epidemiological, research and/or program evaluation components are required. Produces written reports, analyses, and presentations appropriate for the target audience. - (25%) Oral and written communications activities: Serves as subject matter expert on vaccines, data analysis, and the immunization schedule. Provides epidemiologic consultations to medical and public health professionals on vaccine-preventable diseases.
