Baylor Scott & White Medical Center – Lakeway — Address: 100 Medical Parkway, Lakeway, TX 78738. Lakeway is located about 25 miles west of downtown Austin and is situated on the south shore of Lake Travis in the Texas Hill Country. The facility is a 121-bed, full-service hospital, a certified primary stroke center, and a certified chest pain center. Lakeway has Magnet recognition for nursing professionalism and patient care.

Shift coverage is Monday–Friday 0700–1900. Call coverage may include overnights during the week and 24-hour coverage on weekends; call is shared among the techs. Must live within 40 minutes of the hospital.

Job Summary

The Ultrasound Technologist, under a Radiologist or physician’s supervision, performs ultrasound procedures in ambulatory and hospital settings as requested by a physician or licensed provider. This role supports diagnosing disease and injury according to established protocols.

Responsibilities
  • Performs high-quality ultrasound procedures according to exam protocol in a timely manner. Maintains production and quality of imaging procedures by following established standards and procedures.
  • Utilizes AIDET to communicate with patients. Identifies patient service needs. Ensures the correct exam is performed on the correct patient. Establishes rapport with patients and others. Instructs and communicates with patients and their family about the test. Assesses the patient’s ability to tolerate the exam.
  • Prepares the patient and area for the procedure. Positions the patient, adjusts immobilization devices, and moves equipment into position. Adjusts equipment controls to set exposure factors.
  • Protects patients and team members by following safety, infection-control, drug, and radiation policies, protocols, and techniques. Uses proper sterile techniques for invasive multimodality procedures and maintains hand hygiene.
  • Maintains equipment and work area to meet quality and cleanliness standards. Works with engineers and physicists to ensure optimal equipment operation. Reports issues to management or the appropriate department. Assists in maintaining supplies inventory. Screens people entering the department according to approved policies and procedures.
  • Obtains, verifies, and maintains all relevant documentation (requisition/chart, patient history, pregnancy status, shielding precautions, consent forms, policies, and procedures).
  • Imaging team members must follow policies, procedures, and workflows, including PACS, EMR, image exchange systems, modality worklist integrity, record management, and Bio Med services.
  • Maintains medical imaging records in the appropriate system and according to department policies and standards for interpretation in a timely manner.

  • Ensure customer satisfaction by limiting wait times and providing courteous service; review patient satisfaction scores and develop action plans when needed.
  • Demonstrates and maintains current knowledge, education, and skills for caring for newborns, pediatric, young adults, adults, and geriatrics.
  • Able to serve as trainer by providing quality training to new team members and on new services and initiatives.
  • Able to take call, if required.

  • EDUCATION - High School Diploma or GED equivalent
  • CERTIFICATION/LICENSE/REGISTRATION - ARRT-BS Breast Sonography (ARRT-BS), ARRT-S Sonography (ARRT-S), Musculoskeletal Sonography (MSK), Registered Diag Med Sono
    - Abdomen (AB) (RDMS-AB), Registered Diag Med Sono
    - Breast (BR) (RDMS-BR), Registered Diag Med Sono- OB/GYN (OB) (RDMS-OB), Registered Vascular Sonographer (RVS), Registered Vascular Tech (RVT); or ARDMS (OB/GYN, AB,  , MSK, RVT), or ARRT(S) or (BS), or Cardio Credentialing Intl. (CCI) (RVS).
