This is a Medical Assistant Apprentice position, which will include training to grow into a Medical Assistant.

PURPOSE

Under close supervision of clinical leadership, will be trained to support provider practice by assisting with direct patient care duties, including patient call backs and refill request. May learn to perform diagnostic testing, maintain supply inventory levels, and clean and maintain medical equipment. Carries out all duties while maintaining compliance and confidentiality and promoting the mission and philosophy of the organization.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Completes all assigned online coursework in a timely manner according to the outlined schedule and allowed time parameters.
  • Completes online coursework at the 290 Administration building, unless otherwise specified by management.
  • Travel to various ARC clinics for clinical rotations/training.
  • Participate in classes held at the 290 Administration building.
  • Rooms patients, takes and documents vital signs and prepares patients for provider exam.
  • Performs diagnostic testing such as EKGs, audiograms, typanograms, spirometry, and visual screenings as instructed and documents in Epic EMR.
  • Ensures rooms are properly stocked and supplies are current and within expiration dates.
  • Cleans patient rooms as needed, including proper handling of dirty laundry.
  • Follows directions given by nursing team leader or supervisor.
  • Provides patients with educational materials as directed.
  • Follows clinic protocols.
  • Administers medication under physician’s direction and within the scope of practice as demonstrated by completion of training and testing.
  • Reviews Epic Inbaskets (Medication Refill Requests, Result Notes, Triage Calls) under preceptor guidance in accordance with company protocol.
  • Adheres to all company policies, including but not limited to, OSHA, HIPAA, compliance and Code of Conduct.
  • Regular and dependable attendance.
  • Follows the core competencies set forth by the Company, which are available for review on CMSweb.
  • Works holiday shift(s) as required by Company policy.

OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Calls patients and informs of normal lab results.
  • Maintains equipment (autoclaves, sterilizes, washes speculums, checks expiration dates, etc).
  • Posts patient test results through patient’s mychart portal.
  • May assist providers with procedures by setting up equipment, assisting with patient preparation, and cleaning and storing equipment after exam. Obtains applicable consents and completes all necessary documentation in EPIC EMR.
  • Performs other duties within the scope of the unlicensed personnel as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

Education and Experience

Required: High school diploma or equivalent.

Preferred: Previous work in a physician’s office, medical setting, and/or providing direct patient care in a supervised clinical setting.

Certificate/License: Must obtain during the program, and maintain an AHA approved Basic Life Support (BLS) Healthcare Provider Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) course completion card.
