Medical Assistant
Comm Unity Care Health Centers is looking for a dedicated Medical Assistant to collaborate with patients, families, and multidisciplinary staff to perform vital clinical and administrative duties.
Essential Duties- Accurately interview patients and record patient history, and measure and record vital signs such as height, weight, BMI, head circumference, current medications, pulse oximetry level, and patient comfort level.
- Verify patient information (demographics, insurance, vitals, medications) and complete the intake process, entering data into EHR/EPM.
- Perform patient greeting and assistance, answer telephones, provide information, and verify patient details.
- Collect, perform, document, and report CLIA‑waived lab test results, including urine dipstick, pregnancy tests, finger‑stick blood glucose, fecal occult blood, rapid influenza, and rapid strep tests.
- Collect, prepare, and document specimen collections, including blood, urine, stool, and sputum.
- Assist with clinical duties as assigned: preparing patients for examinations or treatments, assisting providers with exams or procedures, setting up exam or procedure rooms, and preparing instruments for sterilization.
- Complete pre‑visit planning to support the clinical visit.
- Administer medications per the CUC formulary.
- Perform medical acts as prescribed by Standing Delegation Orders.
- Dismiss patients at the end of clinic visits, completing orders, tasks, and patient plans.
- Participate in new employee orientation and mandatory meetings.
- Collaborate with staff, patients, and providers to communicate and coordinate patient care and workflow effectively.
- Coordinate and manage patient care: communicate test results, assist with pre‑certifications, referrals, authorizations, prescriptions, and scheduling of clinic, hospital, and ancillary medical treatments/tests; follow up on diagnostic tests to ensure completion and documentation in EHR.
- Conduct surveillance programs, completing medical records including labs, authorizations, X‑Rays, hospital records, and prior care related to each patient visit.
- Maintain a clean, functional environment, including cleaning and disinfection of equipment, exam rooms, and storage areas per CUC guidelines.
- Serve as a scribe by accurately and thoroughly documenting medical visits and procedures performed by providers, including the following duties:
- Patient medical history and physical examination.
- Procedures and treatments performed by healthcare professionals, including nurses and physician assistants.
- Patient education and explanations of risks and benefits.
- Provider‑dictated diagnoses, prescriptions, and instructions for patient or family self‑care and follow‑up.
- Prepare referral letters as directed by the provider.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Graduation from high school or equivalent.
- Medical Assistant Diploma and/or National Medical Assistant Certification verifying graduation from a Medical Assistant Program or equivalent military healthcare experience.
- Completion of a medical assistant externship.
Current Health Care Provider Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) certification through the American Heart Association or American Red Cross. Must maintain current CPR certification during employment.
