Independent Identity (II) is a startup non-profit in Austin, TX. II is a community- and center- based day program for clients 18+ with autism or intellectual and developmental disabilities who are struggling with challenging behaviors such as aggression, property destruction, or self-injury. Clients receive ABA therapy embedded into their day program based upon a treatment plan written by a supervising BCBA.

Job Summary

The Apprentice Behavior Analyst provides direct services and behavioral support to clients while actively developing their clinical skills under the supervision of a Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA). This role combines hands‑on client interaction with supervised clinical responsibilities, including conducting assessments, assisting in treatment and behavior plan development, data analysis, and progress monitoring. The Apprentice Behavior Analyst is accruing supervised fieldwork hours toward BCBA certification.

Reporting

and Duties

The Apprentice Behavior Analyst reports to the supervising BCBA for clinical matters and to the Clinical Director or Program Director for administrative issues.

Reports to work promptly at 8:00 a.m. and completes work at 4:30 p.m., with occasional participation in before- or after-hours meetings or trainings as needed (approximately two per month).

Works directly with clients to implement ABA-based programming while also participating in the clinical processes of program design, data analysis, and evaluation under supervision.

  • Direct Client Support:
  • Deliver individualized and group programming using ABA principles to develop life skills, vocational skills, social skills, and appropriate behavior.
  • Implement treatment and behavior plans as designed and modeled by supervising BCBAs.
  • Assessment and Plan Development:
  • Collaborate with BCBAs to conduct assessments (e.g., functional behavior assessments, skill‑based assessments) and assist in developing individualized treatment and behavior plans.
  • Data Collection and Analysis:
  • Collect, record, and summarize behavioral and skill acquisition data accurately and consistently. Assist in graphing and analyzing client progress and outcomes to inform treatment adjustments.
  • Progress Monitoring and Documentation:
  • Contribute to writing session notes, data summaries, and progress updates under BCBA supervision.
  • Support the development of treatment reports and goal reviews for clients.
  • Behavioral Support:
  • Respond to behavioral incidents according to established behavior support plans, ensuring client safety and dignity at all times.

    Collaboration:
  • Participate in team meetings, case reviews, and supervision sessions to review data, discuss treatment modifications, and receive ongoing feedback.
  • Professional Development:
  • Meet regularly (minimum once per month) with the supervising BCBA to review fieldwork goals, reflect on applied experiences, and document supervision hours.
  • Attend all required staff meetings, professional trainings, and maintain relevant certifications (e.g., CPR, First Aid, PCM).
Program Responsibilities
  • Ensure client safety and uphold ethical and professional standards of Applied Behavior Analysis.
  • Maintain organization and cleanliness of program spaces and materials.
  • Support community outings, volunteer activities, and vocational placements as part of client programs.
  • Treat all clients and colleagues with dignity, respect, and cultural sensitivity in alignment with Independent Identity’s mission and values.
Supervision and Training
  • Receive regular supervision from a qualified BCBA in accordance with BACB fieldwork requirements.
  • Receive opportunities to accrue unrestricted supervision hours.
  • Participate in hands‑on training to develop competencies in assessment, program design, implementation, and data‑driven decision‑making.
  • Demonstrate consistent application of feedback from supervisors and contribute to team collaboration and client success.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in psychology, education, applied behavior analysis, or a related field (Master’s coursework in ABA preferred).
  • Enrollment in an accredited BCBA certification program and active pursuit of supervised fieldwork hours.
  • Strong communication skills, attention to detail, and ability to work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team.
  • Experience working with individuals with intellectual or developmental disabilities preferred.
