Brief

Job Description

The Research Specialist reports to the DSHS Central Pharmacy Director and provides advanced research and data analysis work. Responsibilities include planning, conducting, and leading research projects centered on pharmacy operations, inventory, and distribution; managing data dissemination for ordering and distribution; developing and implementing new procedures, policies, protocols, and processes for data quality assessment of pharmacy medications, vaccines, and related systems; consulting and providing expert technical assistance to program staff;

supporting programs and entities ordering vaccines; coordinating and analyzing data pipelines; ensuring data integrity and quality; recommending system improvements; and communicating results to stakeholders.

Essential Job Functions (EJFs)
  • EJF1 (40%) Develops, implements and manages data quality research projects, advanced data reports and deliverables, and effective data dissemination methods. Oversees research and data analysis activities, manages pharmacy data extracts, develops operational reports, identifies data trends, manages grant benchmarking metrics, and ensures data accuracy.
  • EJF2 (30%) Oversees and monitors operational data, provides improvement recommendations, develops operating procedures, manages complex analytical research projects, presents findings orally and in writing, collaborates on trainings and presentations, and develops data standards and analytics systems.
  • EJF3 (25%) Provides consultative and technical assistance to pharmacy partners, prepares reports, develops requirement/functional specification documents and user interface guides, facilitates user design sessions, and prepares preliminary analysis plans.
  • EJF4 (5%) Performs other duties as assigned, including participating in disaster response and/or recovery of Continuity of Operations (COOP) activation, which may require alternative shift patterns or location.

    • Medical/epidemiologic research design, methods, principles, and techniques.
    • Scientific research methods, principles, and philosophy.
    • Statistical concepts and methods and application to research analysis.
    • Measurement, testing, and evaluation procedures.

    • Computer application (SQL, SAS) to biostatistics, Excel (including VBA), Power Point, and Tableau/PBI.
