Job Summary and Qualifications

POSITION SUMMARY :

Provides direct patient care, applying sound physics to assist with diagnosis. Perform sonographic imaging and related procedures in all applications of ultrasound. Demonstrates anatomy for interpretation and/or intervention by, or at the request of a licensed practitioner. Exercises professional judgment in the performance of services and maintains a demeanor complementary to medical ethics. Applies appropriate patient care and recognizes patient conditions essential for successful completion of the procedure.

Applies knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span to identify patient and family requirements relative to age-specific needs.

Participates in providing patient-specific care standards as directed and follows service excellence standards to ensure high levels of patient satisfaction.

ESSENTIAL JOB RESPONSIBILITIES :

Technical Responsibilities

  • Consistently produce scans of optimal diagnostic quality on patients ranging from neonatal to geriatric, adhering to established scanning and operational protocols
  • Operate the Ultrasound equipment safely, efficiently, and effectively
  • Complete diagnostic quality scans in a timely manner;
    Continuously triage incoming orders and modify workflow to prioritize STAT and urgent demands
  • Demonstrate proficiency in scanning trauma, acute & technically challenging patients;
    Possess skills to modify positioning and scanning parameters as needed to ensure diagnostic accuracy
  • Possess in-depth knowledge of human anatomy, pathology, and image optimization to provide diagnostic information necessary for diagnosis; communicate preliminary findings and relevant patient information to the Radiologist
  • Cross-collaboration with other departments to coordinate procedures
  • Assist physicians with performing invasive exams according to departmental guidelines;
    Knowledge of biopsy and procedural supplies, including associated charges
  • Assist with procedures in the OR
  • Review written orders, assess patient identification, and ensure indications are appropriate prior to procedures
  • Ensure that procedure rooms are clean, stocked, and communicate when supplies need to be ordered
  • Accurately perform and document high-level disinfection on transvaginal transducers according to policy
  • Cover on-call shifts on a rotating basis;
    Arrive at facility within 30 minutes of receipt of call
  • Accept direction and constructive feedback in a positive and professional manner
  • Maintain working knowledge and adherence to all St. David's South Austin Medical Center Hospital codes, policies, values, standards, and mandatory education
  • Conduct must reflect the Company's values and a commitment to the Code of Conduct ethics and compliance program.
  • Other duties, as assigned

KNOWLEDGE,

SKILLS AND ABILITIES

:

Required:

Must possess the knowledge, skills and abilities to perform all applicable diagnostic ultrasound procedures including abdominal, OB/GYN, small parts, vascular, invasive guidance, and neonatal exams. Must be collaborative and work well with others in a fast-paced imaging department. Must provide outstanding care and services to patients, physicians, visitors, and colleagues. Maintain awareness of patient privacy (HIPAA), confidentiality, and dignity at all times.

Must be able to demonstrate understanding of national patient safety initiatives by strict compliance to all safety protocols and procedures as required by both HCA and St. David's South Austin Medical Center.

Preferred:
Computer skills, previous experience in applicable field

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE :

Required:

A single two-year allied health education program that is patient-care related OR Graduate of a program accredited by an agency recognized by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA), United States Department of Education (USDOE) or Canadian Medical Association (CMA), that specifically conducts programmatic accreditation for diagnostic medical sonography/diagnostic cardiac sonography/vascular technology.

Preferred:
Associate's Degree or higher in a related technological field. One year of previous experience as a diagnostic medical sonographer.

LICENSES AND CERTIFICATES :

Required:

  • Credentials with the American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonographers (ARDMS)
  • BLS certification

Preferred:

  • Registered Vascular Technologist (RVT)
  • Post-primary certification in Sonography
