PRN Radiation Therapist

Austin Center for Radiation Oncology (ACFRO) is committed to expanding access to advanced radiation oncology services for patients throughout the greater Austin area. ACFRO is an extension of Urology Austin, a progressive physician group that has served the greater Austin community since 1962.

The PRN Radiation Therapist is responsible for delivering prescribed radiation therapy treatments in accordance with physician orders and established clinical protocols. This role supports patient care through accurate treatment delivery, patient positioning, equipment operation, documentation, and adherence to radiation safety standards. The Radiation Therapist works collaboratively with physicians, physicists, dosimetrists, and other clinical staff to ensure safe, effective, and compassionate care.

Work Location:

  • This PRN position may be scheduled to support operations at both the Austin and Kyle locations, depending on staffing needs and patient volume. Typical shifts include Austin: 6:00 AM to 2:30 PM and Kyle: 7:00 AM to 12:00 PM, with the potential for Kyle shifts to extend until 1:30 PM based on operational demand. Candidates must be able to work flexibly between both locations as needed
Job Duties
  • Prepare treatment rooms, equipment, and necessary supplies for patient care and radiation therapy delivery.
  • Position patients accurately for treatment and operate linear accelerator equipment in accordance with the prescribed treatment plan.
  • Explain treatment procedures to patients and help maintain a calm, respectful, and supportive treatment environment.
  • Deliver prescribed radiation therapy treatments accurately and safely, following physician orders and department protocols.
  • Monitor patients during treatment and observe for any physical or emotional changes, reporting concerns appropriately to the care team.
  • Document all treatment information thoroughly and accurately in the medical record, including dose delivery, treatment site, and patient response.
  • Perform daily warm-up and quality assurance procedures on radiation therapy equipment as assigned and according to department standards.
  • Verify treatment parameters, beam consistency, and alignment to support safe and precise treatment delivery.
  • Follow all radiation safety procedures, infection control practices, and clinic policies at all times.
  • Communicate effectively with radiation oncologists, physicists, dosimetrists, nursing staff, and other team members to support coordinated patient care.
  • Assist in maintaining an organized and efficient workflow within the department.
  • Participate in ongoing education, competency maintenance, and departmental meetings as needed.
  • Perform other duties as assigned in support of departmental and patient care needs.
Requirements
  • Current Texas licensure in Radiation Therapy, as required.
  • Current certification by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) in Radiation Therapy required.
  • Current BLS certification required.
  • Graduate of an accredited radiation therapy program required; associate's or bachelor's degree preferred.
  • Minimum of two years of experience as a Radiation Therapist preferred, ideally in an outpatient or clinic-based setting.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work effectively with patients, providers, and interdisciplinary team members.
  • Ability to maintain professionalism, accuracy, and attention to detail in a fast-paced clinical environment.
  • Proficiency with electronic medical records and standard computer applications.
  • Ability to travel between assigned clinic locations as needed.
Physical Requirements
  • Ability to stand and walk for extended periods throughout the workday.
  • Ability to assist with positioning and transferring patients, with or without reasonable accommodation.
  • Ability to use radiation therapy equipment and standard clinical office equipment safely and effectively.
