GENERAL

JOB DESCRIPTION:

Responsible for assisting physicians with patient care, including casting, splinting, bracing, and DME application. Perform delegated technical visits, gather patient information, educate patients on care plans, and document all care in the EMR timely. Manage clinic inventory, supplies, and DME processes while maintaining OSHA compliance, supporting clinic operations, and providing backup staffing as needed.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
  • Collaborate with physicians and care teams to support orthopedic injury management, bracing solutions, and safe return-to-activity planning.
  • Serve as primary DME coordinator, overseeing ordering, fitting, dispensing, documentation, and comprehensive support of braces and orthopedic devices, including product selection, patient education, troubleshooting, and coordination of repairs or replacements.
  • Perform casting, splinting, brace fitting, and DME application, ensuring proper fit, alignment, comfort, and patient safety; conduct tech-only visits including cast application/removal, adjustments, and follow-up care focused on functional outcomes.
  • Verify insurance benefits, obtain prior authorizations, and ensure adherence to Medicare, Medicaid, and regulatory standards, including accurate documentation, coding, billing support, and audit readiness.
  • Maintain accurate and timely EMR documentation for all patient care, procedures, and DME-related activities.
  • Manage inventory of braces, casting materials, and clinical supplies, serving as super user for inventory systems while ensuring proper stock levels, tracking, ordering, cost control, and overall clinic readiness.
  • Maintain a clean and organized clinical environment, including casting areas, storage, and rehabilitation spaces; troubleshoot bracing and equipment issues to ensure optimal function and patient comfort.
  • Educate patients on device use, care instructions, activity restrictions, and precautions, and instruct in home exercise programs to support rehabilitation and recovery.
  • Support clinic workflow and patient throughput by assisting with rooming, procedures, and cross-covering MA and Orthopedic Tech responsibilities as needed.
  • Act as a clinical resource for providers and staff regarding bracing, casting techniques, DME processes, and rehabilitation considerations.
  • Assist with onboarding and training of staff on DME processes, casting/splinting techniques, and clinic protocols.
  • Build strong working relationships with providers, staff, and vendors to ensure efficient product utilization and high-quality patient care.
  • Assist with process improvement initiatives related to DME, inventory management, and clinic efficiency.
