Overview

In collaboration with patients, families (as defined by the patient) and staff across all disciplines and departments is responsible for performing a variety of X‑ray procedures for diagnostic purposes.

Responsibilities
  • Perform assigned X‑ray procedures and provide a variety of mammography‑related services.
  • Develop X‑ray films using processing equipment.
  • File X‑rays according to established practice, policy and procedure and maintain an accurate filing system.
  • Schedule patients for X‑rays in support of clinic activities and/or referrals.
  • Compile data and prepare reports for management review.
  • Maintain equipment using quality checks, arrange preventive maintenance as indicated and assure that X‑ray services comply with state licensing, inspection and safety requirements.
  • Order/issue supplies as needed and maintain adequate inventory.
  • Immediately report any irregularities such as equipment issues and patient or staff exposure to the Radiation Safety Officer (RSO) and leadership.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
  • Maintain a high degree of accuracy in positioning and exposure technique.
  • Communicate with patients and relay pertinent information to the Clinical Manager, documenting on a tracking sheet/chart.
  • Understand and perform any necessary additional exams.
  • Complete all direct and indirect care documentation in a timely manner and ensure patient records are current and complete.
  • Attend daily patient‑care (unit) huddles and periodic informational (clinic) huddles, meetings, patient conferences, or planning sessions related to quality assurance, patient care and other clinic topics.
  • Attend seminars and maintain all licensure and/or certification requirements for continuing education and best practices.
  • Participate in quality strategies to evaluate compliance with evidence‑based guidelines, standards and to identify opportunities to improve patient outcomes.
  • Ensure all tasks associated with patient care, patient administrative processes, and related duties comply with all regulatory and accreditation standards including The Joint Commission and Comm Unity Care  Standard Operating Procedures and Comm Unity Care  Policies and Procedures.
  • Develop and maintain favorable internal relationships, partnerships with co‑workers, clinical managers, clinical support staff, providers and business office staff.
  • Interact respectfully and collaboratively with patients and their families, fostering favorable relationships.
  • Collaborate with all members of the care team in providing patient‑centered care.
  • Consistently practice excellent mammography positioning and exposure technique.
RSO Addendum
  • Establish and oversee operating and safety procedures that maintain radiation exposures as low as reasonably achievable (ALARA), reviewing them regularly to ensure they are current and conform with Texas Administrative Code 289.226.
  • Ensure individual monitoring devices are properly used by occupationally‑exposed personnel, keep records of monitoring results, and provide timely notifications as required by Texas Administrative Code 289.226.
  • Investigate and report to the agency each known or suspected case of radiation exposure to an individual or radiation level detected in excess of limits established by this chapter, as well as each theft or loss of sources of radiation, determine the cause, and take steps to prevent recurrence.
  • Maintain thorough knowledge of management policies and administrative procedures, keeping management informed of the performance of the registrant's radiation protection program.
  • Assume control and have authority to institute corrective actions, including shutdown of operations when necessary in emergency or unsafe conditions.
  • Maintain records as required by Texas Administrative Code 289.226.
  • Ensure personnel are adequately trained and comply with this chapter, the conditions of the certificate of registration, and the operating and safety procedures of the registrant.
