Overview
The Clinical Rotation Preceptor - Surgical Technologist serves as a pivotal member of the educational team, reporting directly to the Clinical Coordinator. This role bridges theoretical knowledge with practical application, ensuring students gain the advanced practice skills necessary to excel in their field. By fostering an environment of professional growth and autonomy, the Preceptor plays a critical role in shaping the next generation of healthcare providers.
Responsibilities- Provide structured and informal education to students, enabling their transition into competent healthcare providers
- Act as a role model and mentor, guiding students through their clinical learning experiences
- Facilitate student autonomy while ensuring adherence to clinical objectives and professional standards
- Create a collaborative and respectful learning environment that supports student development
- Define and direct overall goals and objectives for the practicum experience based on student outcome objectives provided by College faculty
- Assist students in applying theoretical knowledge to practical scenarios
- Evaluate students’ identified learning objectives and provide constructive feedback
- Guide students in developing and improving their performance through targeted teaching methods
- Facilitate a collaborative and respectful learning environment conducive to student growth
- Review course objectives and students’ clinical objectives to identify optimal learning opportunities
- Promptly communicate concerns regarding student behavior, clinical skills, or progression to clinical faculty
- Utilize classroom and lab instruction, student assessment mechanisms, and classroom management techniques to deliver an engaging educational experience
- Ensure students are presented with material necessary to meet learning objectives within their program of study
- Prepare instructional materials and equipment, ensuring readiness, sufficiency, and proper maintenance
- Participate in ongoing faculty assessment and professional development activities to maintain an active and engaging classroom environment
- Monitor student attendance and submit records to the registrar’s office in a timely manner
- Prepare weekly lesson plans and adhere to syllabi to meet academic requirements
- Ensure strict compliance with school schedules and notify the director of any incidents or issues immediately
- Grade tests and submit grades promptly to the registrar’s office
- Maintain cleanliness and organization of classrooms, laboratory areas, and faculty offices
- Arrive on time to greet students and commence class promptly
- Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) certification
- A minimum of 3 years of professional experience as a Surgical Technologist
- Associate's Degree in a relevant field
