Position: Medical Assistant - Employee Wellness Clinic

Travis County is seeking a compassionate and skilled Medical Assistant to support the health and well‑being of the people who keep our County running. As part of the Travis County Employee Clinic, you will provide hands‑on clinical and administrative support to deliver healthcare services exclusively to Travis County employees and their eligible dependents.

In this role, you will work closely with providers and nursing leadership to support patients throughout their care experience. You will help prepare patients for examinations, take vital signs, perform diagnostic testing, assist with medication administration under physician direction and within your scope of practice, and provide patients with health education materials. Your work will help support safe, efficient, and quality patient care.

As a key member of the Employee Clinic team, you will also support the day‑to‑day operations that help the clinic run smoothly. From maintaining patient information and medical records to coordinating reports and prescription refills, monitoring medical and office supplies, and maintaining equipment and patient care areas, you will play an important role in supporting an organized and effective clinical environment.

You may also support employee health and wellness initiatives, including health education classes and off‑site lab screenings. Whether assisting a patient, supporting a provider, or helping with clinic operations, your work will contribute to the health and well‑being of Travis County employees and their eligible dependents.

THE IDEAL CANDIDATE

This position sits within the Medical job family and supports both direct patient care and the day‑to‑day operations of the Travis County Employee Clinic. The ideal candidate understands the importance of providing professional, compassionate, and confidential support to patients while assisting providers and nursing leadership with clinical and administrative responsibilities.

The successful candidate is organized and attentive to detail, with the ability to communicate effectively with patients and establish and maintain effective working relationships with members of the healthcare team and others. They are comfortable balancing patient care with administrative responsibilities and understand the importance of accuracy, confidentiality, compliance, and professionalism in a healthcare setting.

This role is well suited for someone who takes pride in helping others, works effectively as part of a healthcare team, and wants to support the health and well‑being of Travis County employees and their eligible dependents.

  • Schedules patients, takes vital signs and prepares patients for provider exam, patient preparation, cleaning and storing equipment after exam. Cleans patient rooms.
  • Administers medication under physician's direction and within scope of practice as demonstrated by completion of training and testing.
  • Experience performing venipuncture, specimen collection, and point‑of‑care laboratory testing.
  • Demonstrated ability to multitask, prioritize workload, and adapt to changing patient care needs in a busy outpatient clinic.
  • Recalls reports, lab reports and prescription refills.
  • Follows directions given by nursing team leader or supervisor.
  • Provides patients with educational materials, as required.
  • Performs diagnostic testing and completes all necessary paperwork.
  • Maintains equipment, monitors inventory of medical and/or office supplies.
  • Ensures units and rooms are properly stocked and supplies are current and within expiration dates.
