General Notes Dell Medical School is seeking a Behavioral Health Outreach Consultant. This is a grant funded position with an end date of 8/31/2027 that is renewable for another year based upon work performance and progress toward research goals.

Purpose

This position supports mental health programs and initiatives administered through the Texas Child Mental Health Consortium (TCMH), focusing on improving access and quality of mental health care for children, adolescents, and mother’s across Texas. The Behavioral Health Outreach Consultant supports behavioral health access programs by facilitating provider consultation, coordinating referrals, conducting outreach activities, and promoting utilization of behavioral health resources. Working closely with physicians, advanced practice providers, behavioral health clinicians, care coordinators, social workers, and community organizations, this role helps improve access to mental health services for patients and families.

The position provides resource navigation, supports provider education, maintains community partnerships, and assists with implementation of outreach initiatives designed to improve behavioral health outcomes. The Behavioral Health Outreach Consultant typically reports to a Behavioral Health Program Manager, Program Director, Outreach Manager, or similar leader and serves as an important liaison between healthcare providers, behavioral health resources, and community partners.

Responsibilities Provider Outreach and Engagement
  • Conduct outreach visits to physician practices, clinics, and community organizations.
  • Promote awareness and utilization of behavioral health consultation services.
  • Develop productive working relationships with healthcare providers.
  • Respond to provider inquiries regarding available behavioral health resources.
  • Support provider recruitment and engagement initiatives.
Consultation and Referral Coordination
  • Facilitate behavioral health consultation requests according to established protocols.
  • Gather information necessary for clinical consultations and referrals.
  • Coordinate referrals to mental health providers and community resources.
  • Track referral outcomes and follow-up activities.
  • Assist providers in navigating available behavioral health services.
Community Partnership Support
  • Support development and maintenance of community partnerships.
  • Identify potential referral resources and community organizations.
  • Participate in collaborative meetings with external stakeholders.
  • Maintain current information regarding community resources.
Provider Education and Resource Development
  • Deliver educational information regarding behavioral health programs.
  • Prepare resource guides, reference materials, and outreach documents.
  • Assist with presentations and educational events.
  • Promote evidence-based behavioral health practices and available services.
Program Documentation and Reporting
  • Document outreach activities, partnership contacts, and referral activity.
  • Maintain program databases and required records.
  • Assist with preparation of reports and performance metrics.
  • Ensure documentation complies with program requirements.
Program Support and Continuous Improvement
  • Participate in quality improvement initiatives.
  • Assist with implementation of new outreach activities.
  • Provide feedback regarding operational improvements.
  • Support program goals and organizational objectives.
Other duties as identified by department

Marginal or Periodic Functions
  • Participate in pilot programs, and special projects.
  • Attend legislative, policy, or stakeholder meetings related to behavioral health.
  • Contribute to development of program evaluations, and accreditation activities.
  • Represent the organization at professional conferences, community events, and health fairs.
  • Provide cross-coverage for outreach, referral, or program staff during periods of absence.
  • Adheres to internal controls and reporting structure.
  • Performs related duties as required.
