POSITION SUMMARY

The Pharmacy Technician supports the daily operations of the internal pharmacy by providing accurate, efficient, and patient-focused pharmacy services under the direction and supervision of the pharmacist. This position assists with prescription processing, insurance and payment activities, medication preparation and coordination, inventory management, patient communication, documentation, and administrative functions.

The Pharmacy Technician works collaboratively with pharmacists, clinical staff, contact center personnel, accounting, and other departments to support timely medication access and a positive patient experience while maintaining compliance with pharmacy policies, regulatory requirements, and ACHC accreditation standards.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES Prescription Processing & Pharmacy Operations
  • Receive and process prescription requests accurately and efficiently within the pharmacy management system.
  • Enter prescription information, including medication, directions, diagnosis, and insurance information, as applicable.
  • Verify pharmacy benefits and eligibility and assist with insurance claim submission and resolution of rejected claims.
  • Monitor prescription status and communicate with patients, pharmacies, vendors, and clinical staff as needed.
  • Prepare and organize medications and supporting documentation for pharmacist review.
  • Coordinate medication pickup and delivery arrangements with patients.
  • Follow pharmacy workflow processes and maintain required prescription and department logs.
  • Process refill requests and ensure appropriate follow-up according to pharmacy procedures and system requirements.
  • Coordinate next-refill needs and follow established refill scheduling processes.
  • Assist the pharmacist with administrative and operational tasks as directed.
Patient & Clinical Support
  • Provide professional, courteous, and timely customer service to patients and caregivers.
  • Handle inbound and outbound calls related to prescriptions, medication status, payments, pickup, delivery, and other pharmacy-related needs.
  • Coordinate with the contact center and clinical locations regarding prescription requests and patient concerns.
  • Follow up on patient funding, balances, and medication access needs.
  • Maintain appropriate communication and documentation in accordance with pharmacy procedures.
  • Escalate clinical questions, medication concerns, complaints, or issues requiring pharmacist intervention to the pharmacist.
Medication Access & Funding Support
  • Coordinate steps related to approved medication assistance or patient support programs, including prescription intake, claim testing, documentation, and required communications.
  • Maintain program-specific spreadsheets and worklists, including patient funding and medication access tracking.
  • Maintain and monitor "Needs Funding" or similar worklists according to established priority and urgency.
  • Communicate with appropriate internal departments regarding funding, payment, or access barriers.
  • Assist with tracking and reconciliation of program-related payments.
Documentation, Compliance & Quality
  • Maintain accurate patient and pharmacy documentation in accordance with department policies and regulatory requirements.
  • Maintain paperwork and documentation necessary to support patient chart compliance with ACHC standards.
  • Follow all pharmacy policies, procedures, safety requirements, and applicable regulatory standards.
  • Maintain knowledge of ACHC accreditation requirements applicable to pharmacy operations.
  • Participate in performance improvement activities and quality initiatives as assigned.
  • Review and assist with designated reports, including medication adherence or quality-related reports.
  • Complete required annual training and department-specific training and drills.
  • Protect patient privacy and maintain confidentiality in accordance with organizational policies and applicable regulations.
Communication & Team Collaboration
  • Work collaboratively with pharmacists, pharmacy leadership, clinical staff, contact center personnel, navigation, and other departments.
  • Communicate prescription or patient-related concerns promptly and professionally.
  • Maintain a professional and patient-centered approach when interacting with patients, caregivers, providers, and coworkers.
  • Perform other reasonably related duties as assigned by the supervisor or manager.
ROLE QUALIFICATIONS Required
  • Current Texas Pharmacy Technician License.
  • Strong customer service and communication skills.
  • Basic knowledge of medications and medical terminology.
  • Ability to work accurately with detailed information and maintain organized records.
  • Basic to intermediate computer skills, including Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook.
  • Ability to learn and effectively use electronic medical records (EMR), pharmacy management systems, and other electronic applications.
