Phlebotomist

Location: Austin, TX (float across surrounding area) |
Schedule: Full-time, contract, on-site, M-F 8am to 5 pm (may require other daytime hours) |

A healthcare services provider is seeking a Phlebotomist to support laboratory operations across multiple sites in the Austin, TX area. This is a contract position with the potential to convert to a permanent role, ideal for a detail-oriented professional comfortable with a mobile, multi-location assignment.

• Perform blood draws, label specimens, centrifuge specimens, and record maintenance data and decontamination activities
• Collect and store specimens according to established procedures
• Explain the venipuncture and other specimen collection processes (e.g., urine or fecal) clearly and courteously to patients
• Demonstrate technique using straight needles and/or butterfly needles
• Fully understand and follow physicians' orders
• Match laboratory requisition forms to specimen tubes
• Label, centrifuge, split, and freeze specimens as required by test order
• Check all test requisitions or computer labels against scripts to ensure 100% accuracy
• Package specimens for transport, ensuring proper temperature control and container/tube selection
• Follow protocol-specific procedures to maintain specimen integrity during transport
• Understand and comply with OSHA and DEP regulations
• Attend annual department trainings
• Answer telephone calls and read laboratory results to satisfy inquiries
• Assist with troubleshooting, training, and workflow recommendations
• Float between multiple locations in the Austin, TX area

• Valid Phlebotomy certification for the state of employment, as required in some states
• Minimum of 6 months' work experience performing venipunctures in a fast-paced lab or hospital setting
• Minimum 1 year of experience
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite
• High School Diploma or GED
• Clean driving record
• Reliable transportation
• Availability M-F 8am to 5 pm, with potential need for other daytime hours
