Phlebotomist

Location: Austin, TX (float role covering surrounding area) |
Schedule: Full-time, on-site, M-F 8am to 5 pm (may require other daytime hours) |

A healthcare services organization is seeking a Phlebotomist for a contract assignment based in Austin, TX, with strong potential to convert to a permanent position. This float role supports multiple locations across the Austin area and plays a key part in ensuring accurate specimen collection and patient care.

• Perform blood draws, label specimens, centrifuge specimens, and record maintenance and decontamination data
• Update patient information and maintain accurate records
• Collect and store specimens according to established procedures
• Clearly and courteously explain venipuncture and other specimen collection procedures (e.g., urine or fecal) to patients
• Demonstrate proper technique using straight needles and/or butterfly needles
• Fully understand and follow physicians' orders
• Match laboratory requisition forms to specimen tubes
• Label, centrifuge, split, and freeze specimens as required by test order
• Verify all test requisitions or computer labels against scripts to ensure 100% accuracy
• Package specimens for transport and store samples at required temperatures using appropriate containers and labeling
• Follow protocol-specific procedures to maintain specimen integrity during transport
• Understand and comply with OSHA and DEP regulations
• Attend annual department trainings
• Answer telephone calls and relay laboratory results to satisfy inquiries
• Float between multiple locations in the Austin area as assigned

• Valid Phlebotomy certification for the state of employment, as required in some states
• Minimum of 6 months' work experience performing venipunctures in a fast-paced lab or hospital setting
• Minimum 1 year of experience
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite
• High School Diploma or GED
• Clean driving record
• Reliable transportation
